Hollow Reed School

We are in our third year at the Mendell and have had nothing but a positive experience! The members of the staff are thoughtful, friendly, and engaged and there is a strong parental community that really cares for the school. The teachers are excellent and Ms. Bott, the principal, really cares about her students. We are looking forward to our younger child hopefully starting K1 there in the Fall.

Hi my name is Wanda G. I have 2 kids in the JFK and I believe the John F Kennedy School is a excellent school... offers a lot of programs suitable for our kids, with allot of concern for students & parents well been and communication. 95% of teachers are excellent and you can see they want the best for our kids instead of just working for a check and spending the summer off... me myself had been in programs involving me and my kids and had been times (actually must of the times) when is time to leave... (around 7:30PM), they are still there including the Principal (Miss Landing). My kids had been in JFK for their school years and I love it. When you walk in... they make you feel welcome. Can't complain about my 2nd home for my kids... cause that's how I see it. I know they are safe and having teacher with big concerns about safety.. make the JFK School one of the best school around.

We are so happy at the Hernandez! It’s a great community and many of the teachers have been at the school for a long time and are still excited to be back every year. We have one child in pre-K and one in second and the bilingual education is wonderful. The principal is great and very accessible, and there’s lots of parent engagement.

Some teachers are wonderful. It is NOT a school for high needs children although it says it is. Children do not receive the correct pull-outs for therapy according to their IEP's and the school is very hard to work with. I have had children on IEP's; this school outright lies through their director of SPED. They do not follow laws or regulations and my child is caught in the middle. His academics are well below average and they are telling me he's doing fine. No, he isn't. So if your child has any special needs, be forewarned.

My daughter is currently in one of the Pre-K classrooms at Dexter-Southfield School. The program is world class and her teacher is fantastic. There are 9 students in her current classroom and my daughter is really excited to be in an all-girl environment. The school has amazing facilities and the Playscape playground is second to none. We researched many schools and we're very glad our journey ended up at Dexter-Southfield!

I regret that a school that was a staple in the community for so long has fallen so low. It's safe to say once there was a turnover in leadership almost 10 years ago it started going down hill and the past 5 years has culminated into a disaster both financially and academically. You can't continue to rob Peter to pay Paul then turn around and not pay Paul either. Simply Sad.
