Read what parents are saying about Central Elementary SchoolCentral Elementary offers an amazing learning environment, with particularly strong community feeling, greatly supporting and accomodating learning difficulties.
Posted by a parent on 12/17/2022The teachers at Central that my children had during their four year tenure were excellent academically and were also keyed in to each student’s needs from a social and emotional perspective. The resources that Central provides are phenomenal. On the less positive side, in our experience and the experience of a large number of families that I am aware of the current administration blatantly favors a few select parents to the detriment of a significant portion of children that are in classes with the children of said parents. In particular significant physical events and other equally concerning behavior was overlooked for certain children despite written and oral communication by numerous parents and professionals documenting such incidents. Central is a school with many amazing teachers and paraprofessionals, but the administration needs to focus on the needs of the larger entire student body and not just those whose parents hire consultants to discredit teachers and other administrators.
Posted by a community member on 8/19/2022The new superintendent is a failure. Covid response was a total mess. Staff and parents left the district in droves. Nobody running for school board because nobody wants to steer this wreck. District has been caught up in controversy after controversy over the past few years. Can't handle students on either end of the spectrum, whether with special needs or academically advanced. Many teachers are great, but they are disgruntled after how they've been treated.

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageGreat school, full of kids who want to learn and parents who value their children’s education. Set in a beautiful neighborhood, this school excels in preparing its students with the tools they need to succeed in life. I went to a similar school in Highland Park, Texas and appreciate excellence when I see it. A plus school.Other Review1y ago - Midwest Montessori School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe made the switch to Baker when my daughter was entering 4th grade. The transition was seamless. The kids were welcoming, and the teachers and staff reached out to make sure my daughter's needs were met, both academically and socially. The thing that struck me most about the switch to Baker was the change in my daughter's overall personality. Pre-Baker, she was a great kid, but she seemed anxious and a bit on edge when it came to navigating social dynamics. She also lacked confidence academically. Almost immediately after beginning Baker, there was no more anxiety about social dynamics--my daughter looked forward to attending school every day and had no problems navigating friendships with the kids at Baker. She also found her confidence academically and began taking on challenges with a more positive attitude. Overall, my suggestion is, if you are thinking about Baker, go for it.Parent Review1y ago - The Barbereux School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe teachers are awesome but administration needs a lot of work. Not diverse. Can be clickie. The Director, Kathy Curtz is the worst. Not very welcoming. They have to do better with discrimination.Parent Review3mo ago - St Athanasius Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWrote previous review, but just to clarify, why 3 stars? In my experience, under a different leadership, the school was not more forthcoming with student benchmark data. In the public schools, they recognize that it's a parents right to have access to it. If you child is high, you really don't have to worry about it. If your child is low, having the conversation in 2nd grade or 4th grade is way too late. Also, for 20+ years my family flipped burgers and grilled steaks for the many SFX families that are Westmoreland members. Our family was good enough to make meals, but not good enough for my daughter to sit next to them at the lunch table. Gutted, sad, wishing that the world was a better place in 2023. Do better SFX!Parent Review2mo ago
