Palmer Elementary School

I have two kids and couldn’t be happier with our time at Beaubien. Safe and welcoming teachers and community. My kids were very happy here in the and went on to attend Selective Enrollment high schools in the city. The teachers and staff do a great job caring for their academic and emotional needs. .

We transferred in for junior high and our experience has been wonderful! They are able to challenge students who are excelling and provide extra support for those who need it. The IB curriculum is great, creating more project based learning experiences for students, which is a more effective way for student learning.

Haugan is an exemplary school where students are truly accepted and inspired to become life-long learners. I truly believe that the leaders at Haugan put kids first. Each teacher promotes so much student engagement and a true ownership of their learning. The classroom communities are fostering well-rounded students who embrace learning, each other and the world around them.

Our family has had a terrible experience with this school. There is so much bullying that happens and teachers do nothing to help the students that are being victimized. The bully’s are never confronted and parents are told to have their children ignore or stay away from the bullying. The academics are also lacking, not sure if class size is the reason, however it’s harder to tell where your child is academically now that MAP is no longer being used. Once you enroll your child into a CPS school, they will immediately start to indoctrinate them with political ideologies that you may not want your child learning out of your home. Explaining sexuality to a 3rd grader that has not even had sexual education to understand it at any level, leaves families powerless to what and when they want to teach. We wish they would spend more time on academics and socialization and leave the politics out of the classroom.

I'm a student here at Volta and I can say I think that Volta is a very weird and bad school. This school has very "unique" students. Half the time you'll hear kids being racist or really rude which I understand that people can't change what others say. But it's a genuine problem. And some teachers make students feel really afraid to ask for help or for more practice on work. Not to mention test scores for math and science aren't really the best. I looked at these past reviews and it's true! Staff are horrible at communication with parents. The dress code rules too, it's easier to wear clothes that have been bought TO WEAR. Nothing should affect any learning nor our grades. School is supposed to be a safe place for students. The big problem is the students. Kids will be kids but act more like your age and not immature.

Teachers are okay some better than others. Principal doesn't really do what is supposed to be done by a principal. He downplays problems with bullying and gets offensive when you want a meeting with the other child who is bullying yours parents.
