Read what parents are saying about Powers Ferry Elementary SchoolPowers Ferry is a hidden gem in Cobb County that has done wonders for our child! The school frequently hosts special nights or weekend events and there is great family engagement. Our son struggles with ADHD and impulsivity and he has been shown nothing but love and support. He is excited to go to school and excited to come home and share what he is learning.
Posted by a parent on 3/23/2023Powers Ferry serves a lower income, diverse student population hence why their rating looks so poor. But these ratings are deceiving. I was pleasantly surprised by what a great experience my child had at this school. The teachers were engaged, the office staff friendly, and the principal (new as of 2015-2016) committed to creating the best and safest learning environment for the children. While the facility could use some updating (as most public schools do), the playground/field is larger than most of the elementary schools in the area. I loved that there were a variety of "special" classes like art, music, PE, computer and library visits. My child was always excited to attend school. One of the perks of Powers Ferry is that it has a much smaller school population than the bulk of Cobb County elementary schools which creates a more intimate and personal environment. My child was never lost in the crowd and most of the staff and aides recognized them on sight and greeted them by name each day. If I have any complaints it's that I wish they had a better system of communication and a more vibrant and usable website. (Both on the teacher and school-wide level.) They are hampered by the fact that are trying to reach out to all the parents, many of whom require translation, and they do an admirable job of accommodating those needs. But I often felt (as a new parent unfamiliar with both this area and school) that I wasn't hearing enough about activities or functions and didn't find it as easy to be involved as I would have liked.

Posted by a parent on 10/19/2014This school is fabulous! For a small public school it is great! They are attentive to the children's needs and are keeping them prepared for challenges to come, There is so much involvement with the kids! They are constantly learning and having fun in and out of the classroom. I am so impressed with the organization of afterschool activities
Posted by a community member on 10/1/2014Powers Ferry is a small school with many challenges that educators work hard to overcome. The staff is relentless in pushing children to meet high standards, and cares deeply about the success and happiness of each and every child. The teachers take on new challenges with a positive, can-do attitude. They need to be recognized for the tremendously hard work they do everyday. Don't let the test scores and aging building deceive you into thinking this is a sub-par school---the best teaching and learning strategies take place in the classrooms!

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe worst school in Marietta, Ga. Administration is a joke, while they think/pretend that they are the most talented and experienced people in the world. Almost 70% of them behave in an unprofessional manner. A lot of times, we observed that they mistreated students/ minors... if the staff likes you; you can get away with anything... their language in the school area proves that they don’t know what an academic institution means. They say anything like to kids. Kids learn nothing unless you help them out. ..teachers don’t give homework, use most of their time calling parents related to disciplinary issues. In short, they need to first learn what an academic institution has to offer to improve personal as well as professional skills of 4-11 yrs old kids. They should set an example with their manners. smh!!Parent Review11mo ago - Brumby Elementary School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son has been in the SPK class for three years. year 1 was cool because his teacher was experienced and attentive to all of her students. the second year he was assign a new teacher who was teaching for the very first time, so we gave a LOT of grace. going into year two, there has been too many para teachers. Random "float" teachers who would have been handling my son in the bathroom and sent home a huge fist sized poop in my son's bag when he had an accident. any time I ask a basic question its typically met with an "idk it wasn't me" or "you should ask someone else I'm not sure". The icing on the cake was the parking protocol was functional in the first two years. in year three, the assistant principle who is tall and a male, approached my car with my son in it demanding I move my car because the parking system has changed. Even though there wasn't an email or message on the ck12 app. this new system involved only the SPK car riders to park in a traffic lane and literally walk across the parking lot of bus/ vans and other cars. I calmly expressed that it was dangerous, and my son gets excited for school and can run to his teacher as soon as we get out the car and his response was "hold his hand then". then he sent the campus police to me threating to "write me a ticket" for not parking in a traffic lane and away from vehicles. the cop approached me with his hand on his gun as if we weren't at a school but instead like I'm a criminal. the principal Ms. Alford and she seemed understanding to the issue and agreed the new drop off/ pick up policy wasn't the safest. she then the very next day of this talk tell my fiancé and myself that they have launched an "investigation" because I "drive wreck less" around children in their parking lot of no visual reminders of the flow of traffic and at the time no traffic enforced personnel. after the clear discrimination and segregation of my special needs son, i used the main lot to walk him to and from school for about 1.5 months. during our monthly meeting with his teacher, another AP expressed to us that we were allowed to join the NEW and safer policy for drop off and pick up with no evidence discovering that i was in fact not recklessly driving. as we joined the line, it was VERBATIM where i would park to drop and pick him up. to this day they cannot look me in my face or respond to an email. needless to say, we will never see Brumby after this school year.Parent Review1mo ago - Casa Dei Bambini

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy experience with this school is horrible. My kid attended their toddler's class and was forced to withdraw on the third day just because he still cried on the third day. Till now I haven't heard anything back about refund and they happened to charge me a month of tuition on the day of withdrawal. As a summary, I expect more love and care from a church affiliated school and that's absolutely wrong expectation. Your kid has to be perfectly fit into their expectation, no patience or love will be given to your kid. Terrible communication and leadership, I'll file a complain if I hear nothing about the refund.Parent Review1y ago - Shreiner Academy
