Shadow Rock Elementary School

I have had two encounters at this school and both have been negative. The front desk staff as well as the principal are very unwelcoming. Even though I live in the area, I would not send my child to this school. .......and I am a teacher.

I am not impressed with this school at all. The amount of students in each classroom is laughable and so ridiculous, I don't know how the teachers are able to focus on them all. The school administration is nice but they do not have an effective means to communicate to parents when students are misbehaving. I was the last person to find out that my child was having behavioral issues and difficulty focusing in his classroom. I was always approached AFTER the situation... they are not proactively involved at all, they are more REACTIVE.There should never be a time when a parent is told that their child is constantly misbehaving at the end of the semester, especially when I am a phone call away, let me know from the start so that I can work with behavioral modification and get on an action plan to correct it. The counselor even said they never knew there were any issues with my child until AFTER my child was suspended. My child was identified as a gifted child and considered for the program but I never heard back from the school. Even after being in the program as a trial my child fell in love and the behavior was so much better because of the attention to studies and hands on learning which I believe some children need because each child learns differently and reacts to a classroom setting different than others. I am a very caring parent and I do not expect others to raise my child but to be the last person to know about anything going on is absurd. And to ignore the needs of a child that may be on a different learning level, knowing that the test scores show that they can take on more advanced studies, just a mess! The test scores with this school as a whole, don't get me started, my child will not be enrolled this following school year. This school is not for us.

Every since we have got a new principal I have seen a lot of improvements. The school was already good but it is even better now. The office staff and administration staff are very polite and welcoming. My kids have been blessed to have great teachers. My 5th grader reads on a 9th grading level. My 3rd grader reads on 5th grade reading level. If I ever have any concerns they are always addresses immediately. Good School!

Don't know why the community rating is 4 stars... obviously parents didn't look at the test scores. This school has a 2 out of ten. It should be shut down. That's as ridiculous as Redan elementary having a 1.

Great news... We have a new principal! Our students, teachers & community are going to benefit greatly.
