Posted by a community member on 8/23/2014I'm a graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar Sr. High, I,graduated in 1981, when I was a student the parents & community were always deeply involved in the day to day functions, educational matter & the overall educational growth of the students attending, I feel that parents these days enroll their children into a school and don't follow up on what's going on with their children until reportcard time. Most of these children are raising themselves, some can't wait to get to school because of negative things occuring in the home. Back when I was attending the school, teacher, cousaelors & administrative staff all had a had in making sure we were well informed and were had all the tools neccessary to succeed. The department of education has a slogan NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND, well we all no that's not true most of the youth are more interested in getting paid that that the closest they come to any school is when they walk pass it, or see it out of the back window of a police vehicle, yeah its sad, but its true.

Posted by a community member on 10/21/2013Well this is the real deal of Dunbar SHS in Washington dc. Now Dunbar is a really creative and outstanding school also if an parent has a son and would love for them to play sports Dunbar has really good sports also for girls cheerleader,so it would help the children do there work because while on the teams u have to have good grades. How ever this school has changed since I was there I graduated in 2009 prom was also good. It's a well educated and fun to go to. This school makes you continue and finish.also the teachers push yo or your child to walk a cross the stage. Dunbar is a wonderful pick to attend to.
Posted by a community member on 1/2/2012For an inner city school, especially DCPS, Dunbar high offers highly qualified teachers and a great administration. The students are, on balance, an inquisitive group that strives for success. After a rough few years in recent news attracting negative attention, Dunbar is on its way to become a highlight in DCPS. In 2013, a new edifice willp open its doors. It will be the first of its kind. You have heard of LEED certified green schools, well this will be of platinum staus in the green category. There will be an arts and humanities academy, a STEM academy, and one of the only education academies in the country.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is the worse school year for Walker jones 2021-2022. I don't know what is in the water ,but this school is not the same within the previous years of my children attending there. I mean the teacher turnover is the worse and i never seen that before. Its to the point where a teacher come and then in the next month they are gone. Every-time I turn around a teacher is leaving because they can't control the children there or they just can't deal with how the staff is being treated with limited resources. There been fights after fights left to right with the children and people coming up to the school to jump them or fights in the bathrooms. No resources for the children or anything or any after school activities activities( Art Club,Chess Club,Beyond The Bell). Granted they have Saturday School, but what children come to that? And of course a basketball team but thats every school. But what about those who want another outlet? I do give credit to the teachers who are there for the children and trying their best to come together for the children, but they can't do it all alone. I really miss the old days of Walker Jones. It was more parent and teacher involvement. They use to have Girls On The Run,Girl Scouts and even a School Garden that is now overgrown and just sitting there. The children in there are going crazy because they are bored with no resources at all and no one not even the principle is doing anything. I don't know if the budget is low because enrollment or what. But they need to fix it before they lose more children and shutdown for good. I just know my children will no longer being attending. Which is sad they been there since Headstart and this is the lowest this school ever been.Parent Review2y ago - Two Rivers PCS

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son had seizures a few times at school. Teachers and school staff REFUSED to give him his medication to stop seizure. When I brought this up to the principal, she did not even bother to respond. I made a complain to the charter school Board and was told there was nothing they can do. Both the charter school board and my pediatrician advised me to sue two rivers. My pediatrician and the neurologist both called the school and two rivers still refused to give my son his medication. They put children’s life in danger. They should not be allowed to operate. The only reason I let this go was we had a family death and did not have the mental capacity to deal with two rivers. If they put a child’s life in danger and completely did not care, can you imagine they would care about anything else? Child protection service should investigate the school and they should be shut down for this reckless behavior.Parent Review2y ago - Center City PCS - Shaw

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is very poorly run and is disorganized and lacks basic communication with families and teachers. There is no active coaching for teachers. They have a crazy turnover rate and have no plan in place to keep good teachers. There is no social emotional support for students or tier one behavior protocols. Incidents would happen and admin would ignore the issues at hand and refuse to talk to families. I would not recommend this school to anyone.Other Review7mo ago - Langley Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOverall our experience has been great. The teachers truly go the extra mile for all the students, regardless of whether they are behind or advanced. Most of the kids in my child's class are right on grade level and there is also an advanced reading group. My child has loved all of the teachers and also loves the family events. We are so excited and proud to be part of a school that is improving.Parent Review4y ago - KIPP DC - Grow Academy PCS
