Teachers yell at the kids and this not good at all The Principal should have a word with the teacher who yells or may intervene in other ways. This will affects kids mental and emotional behavior.

There are many students in classes that need special attention well beyond normal and the school is not equipped to deal with them. There is not enough coverage in the open restrooms and monitoring these restrooms

The first principal created a school I thought I wanted to keep my child until graduation and each year things were getting better until he left and now the teachers don't seem happy anymore

Thomson has fantastic instructional leadership, including one of the best and longest serving principals in the district, who greets every child by name. She's been able to attract - and retain! - a group of high-flying teachers. The diversity is a huge plus. The parent community is warm and friendly. My child is reading and doing math well above grade level and has been continually pushed and challenged academically. The school offers great social-and-emotional education too...my son will do "rainbow breathing" to calm himself down in tough moments. The IB curriculum is rich and deep and encourages kids to ask questions and be curious. Also feeds one of the stronger middle schools in DC. (Feeder high school is another story). Many families are under-resourced, and the staff, faculty, and PTO go out of their way to meet all students’ needs and ensure they get special opportunities. 9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur 2nd grader has gone to Garrison since kindergarten and we cannot say enough good things about the school. From the principal to even the security, everyone is engaged with the students. The principal is a constant presence and knows all the students. 8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have 2 kids at MV. Overall a great school. The location/area is the biggest "issue". So many incidents occur around the school. The staff do go above and beyond to ensure the kids safety during lock-downs. Most teachers are great and the new Admin have made great improvements to the school.
