Read what parents are saying about DSST: Byers High SchoolIt sucks. The school does a great job making it look great to parents and outsiders but as a student that graduated I know how it is. The teachers are just outright mean to students. Especially failing students. They make no real attempt to help them and they get yelled at all day long. The whole vibe of the school is depressing. They claim that being a "different" middle school is better for the students. But I would beg to differ because the entire school is just sad. The only thing that helped was being in a higher math to help me get ahead in high school. If you really want to you can grind out academics for high school but at the price of your mental health.
Posted by a community member on 10/4/2022Definitely agree with other review regarding lack of direction from running school. It seems teachers don’t have support of upper management when kids get unruly. Mandatory Tutoring rarely happens now because teachers are overwhelmed. CRT is pushed in almost every class and parents need to review Pear Deck and assignments to know what their kids are being taught. However, this seems to be true with all of DPS.
Posted by a parent on 5/25/2022I was a little apprehensive to learn there was a new director from another parent as new management means a slew of new issues, having to learn a new environment and new policies. I absolutely overlooked some of their issues due to new management, however, this second year, after other parent and staff complaints about bullying issues that were overlooked, there seems to be no management of them at all still. It seems like this school is in serious decline with many different school policies being ignored.
Posted by a parent on 5/3/2021This school is obviously focused on STEM subjects for student planning to attend college. They have small classroom sizes and attentive teachers. It is strict/structured, but all of the rules have good rational behind them (ie to discourage bullying, emphasize importance of punctuality, etc). We are very happy here! This environment isn't for everyone so do your homework before registering your child to avoid being disappointed. If you want a school that emphasizes freedom of expression and individuality, then this might not be a good match for you.
Posted by a parent on 6/14/2019Awesome teachers, staff, students and campus. I would say its structured not strict: which creates a safe and welcoming place for all.

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOne of the sweetest, most nurturing neighborhood schools in the city of Denver. Both the traditional and Montessori teachers are incredible. Many of them have been at the school for more than 10 years. The principal is a former Montessori teacher and knows the strengths of both forms of education. Her leadership has been a light in the public school system. There are very few schools that do both traditional and Montessori education this well. Both of my children have thrived, love school, feel comfortable and safe in this environment.Parent Review5mo ago - Dora Moore ECE - 8th Grade School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWhen I went to this school the teachers were excellent in 1st-4th grade , but once I went into 5th grade that's when it all changed. The teacher didn't really care about the students all they cared about was the students grades and getting paid. If you were falling behind in a subject well good luck to the student because there was no support, and if there was than the parents would have to pay that specific teacher money and that was on top of the tutition fee as well. There was a lot of bullying 5th-8th grade and teachers wouldn't even do nothing about it. They didn't care about the students mental health at all. If your kid has depression or anxiety they won't get any support at all. Especially if a student has special needs than kiss that education gone because they didn't have the proper tools to deal with them. The teachers would get overwhelmed even with 24-26 kids in a room. They couldn't handle that big of a class, and there were no supports for them if the teacher needed help. I remember that my art teacher almost quiet her job because of how disruptive the class was.Other Review1mo ago - Colorado Christian School

I want to shout out to all my teachers, and the music, art, and physical education were amazing! I 1000% recommend going here. The principal is SO inclusive and everyone was so so nice. I hope everyone could love this school.Parent Review1y ago
