5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHonestly, I'm a senior here and I've been with this school since freshman year and I've got some things to say. The schools "block schedule" is pretty long and it gives the students the mindset of the fact that they can't complete work in a 30-40 min period and need an hour and 20 mins to do a thing. The lunch sizes are more for a 2nd grader, we're teens we need more fuel than a 8 year old. I did notice I was able to wear my hat without getting in trouble, but never told us why that changed. I do remember there was a hard lockdown all over a food fight and I don't think anyone thought there was a food fight. They used to have a phone policy, but no one's really making us follow it anymore, especially after the pandemic. *Homework*Some say that they never give out homework, but it does depend on the teacher. *Learning*This one's a 50/50. They did downgrade the Video Production program (e.x. The 3's were learning things that the 1's should know more than us.), I heard they're removing personal finance math (which why....), and sometimes the lessons aren't so engaging that I'm just bored for the hour and 20 mins. *Social-emotional support*I haven't had much experience with this so I can't really comment.*Special Education*I personally have an IEP and I feel like they do a pretty good job on accommodating me with my IEP, although the teachers haven't really helped too much.*Safety*Sometimes, I do feel unsafe coming here. It's more about if a fights gonna happen because I remember when 2 kids were fighting, the most they did was spray pepper spray at everyone and I was right there where it happened.Student Review1y ago - B Mahlon Brown Junior High School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBrown is definitely not the best school. Sure, it would be silly to be upset if you get in Brown, but if you have other options for schools you should definitely look into them. The school lunches are not terrible and there's plenty of water fountains around school. The teachers aren't half bad and you can tell they care for your learning. Just be wary of bullying, the school does not do a good job preventing this. School fights among students occur very often. Luckily, as long as you mind your own business it's easy to stay out of them. The school provides students with buses in case you lack transportation. The bus drivers are not always on time so it's best you walk or take the car instead. School lunch and breakfast is free but if you need a second you'll have to pay. The school also uses a kind of currency called Bearbucks. They are given for good behavior. Students can cash these in for items from teacher stores. I can't say if they are easy to earn because it really depends on your teachers. You can choose your electives (classes) during the year. Physical Education, Science, Math, English, and History are required classes. However, you are given the option to choose between the classes Band, Orchestra, Art, Choir, Musical Theater, TV Productions, Robotics, Spanish, Student Council/Leadership (exclusive to 7th and 8th graders,) Student Aid, and Health. There is also optional after school clubs which includes Chess Club, Reader's Theater, Orchestra Club (orchestra elective required) and After School All Stars. Along with this includes after school and in school events. This includes music performances, pep rally's, Theater performances, and the Winter and Spring Dance. That's all I have to say. I hope you find this review helpful.Student Review5mo ago - John Dooley Elementary School

"The bark park dog park is close and it is super nice with 3 different gated areas that are 8 feet tall, includes 2 water park sections for the dogs as well. Best dog park I’ve been to with lots of land to run, well taken care of. Reseeded every summer. Dog parents are friendly and lots of dogs go to this park. You’ll know all the dogs names after a week of going. Top knot place. "

"Freaking LOVE this part of the city. River mountain is extremely quiet and not so much hustle and bustle being the first freeway exit outside of Boulder City. Very CLOSE to lake mead. Though, it is about a ten min drive or so to get any where, it’s worth it. I love it here "

"I've visited the area many times but I finally bought a home in the area. It's far enough away from the chaos of the city but still close enough to drive into town and enjoy Henderson's many amenities. "

"I've lived in this neighborhood for almost 5 years & I love it! The people are friendly, the elementary schools in this area are great! There's plenty of nice parks & we'll kept yards. It's quiet & not far from more shopping options."

"We live in the Old Vegas community and found it to be exactly what we were looking for. Neighbors are friendly and we are all one family. When neighbors go on vacation we watch each others homes. The community is well maintained and the HOA fees are fair. The parks are kept neat and clean. We do not have any tagging problems or crime. Very little nightlife which keep the riffraff away from this area. "

"This is a great neighborhood for kids & animals. Near school & park. Horse trail jogging trails near by.& shopping. One of the lowest crime area in henderson."
