2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageStanton is a turn-around school in Ward 8 of SE DC. Previously one of the lowest schools in the country, Stanton has made incredible gains over the last few years. In fact, the rate of growth is the 15th highest in all of DC. While many students are not yet where they need to be in terms of academics, they have shown incredible growth. Teachers, leadership, City Year, the PTO, and family members are all super committed to making Stanton the best school in all of DC. There are obvious community challenges- high rates of poverty and homelessness, for example- but everyone works really hard to get students where they need to be. The boys' basketball team and the boys' and girls' track team are both stand-outs in terms of extracurricular opportunities and were finalists in the City Championships last year. This year, the addition of a girls' basketball team and a step team will provide even more opportunities for kids to shine. After-school is provided, free of charge, through the PAL program. The school has many partnerships within the community, such as the Woodland Tigers, the Girl Scouts, CityBridge, and the Flamboyan Foundation. Watch Stanton continue to rise in the coming years!Teacher Review10y ago - Anacostia High School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am also a 2012 Anacostia graduate (shoutout to us!) and recently completed my bachelors of arts in economics (yes, I graduated in three years). I could not have done any of this without the support I got from my teachers (I love you Ms. Sowers) and staff (We had the best DC-CAP councelor). Yes the school gets a bit rowdy and learning can't always happen in that environment. The main problem is that students are not understanding the value of education. Once we return to instilling this value in our children.... we'll see the great things Anacostia SHS can do! Our ancestors literally DIED trying to learn to read because they knew how critical it was. Students have to work together to create and maintain a feasible learning community.Other Review8y ago - Kramer Middle School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBaboons are running wild up in here!Definitely the most stupid place that fakes to be a school. Daily fights and the staff have No Common sense even in basic matters. It needs to be shut down and converted into a mental hospital. That will be helpful.Parent Review1y ago - Check out schools near A.

"One of the neighborhood's most famous draws is Cedar Hill, the home of Frederick Douglass and now an historic site run by the National Park Service. Guided tours are your only way inside the home, which includes artifacts that belonged to the former slave-turned-nationally renowned abolitionist. In addition to that home, some 500 other buildings comprise the Anacostia Historic District, featuring unique two-story cottages, Italianate-style architecture and Queen Anne style homes."

"For as well documented as its history is, Anacostia also provides a serene natural retreat for walkers, hikers and bikers. Hop on the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail (it connects the east and west sides of the river at the 11th Street Bridge and South Capitol Bridge) and explore it from Poplar Point, part of National Capital Parks-East, northeast to the nearby Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens."
