What Locals Say about Cheverly

  • Tatum Marshall
"There are no dog parks in the general area and some parts of the neighborhoods don’t have side walks which can make it difficult to walk your dog"
  • Virginiaehall
"Cheverly is a nice community with lots of families. If I were a parent, I would feel great about raising my kids here. I love living here. "
  • Pauline S.
"I live in Cheverly for 13 years, having lived here briefly when I was married. Couldn't wait to move back after the divorce's financial set back, and I did it! If you look at the taxes here, a large piece is because Cheverly is an incorporated town with better services than PG County. There's a lot of pride and decency here, and an active council representing the five wards. Our public works crew are simply the best! Cheverly has its' own trash removal, leaf pick-up and composting program, snow plows, and recycling pick-up. Our streets are cleared long before the rest of the county. We have our own Police force, which brings me great comfort. There is some crime, but mostly B&Es and car theft, because there is a subway station, which sometimes brings the bad element, though truly the Metro is good. Cheverly has many different clubs, an email exchange, and celebrates Cheverly Day with aplomb! Come check it out in May. Before moving here, please read the ordinances carefully. There are restrictions that may affect you--like no parking of certain work vehicles on the street. These ordinances help keep the place lovely."

"I lived in Cheverly for over 25 years until moving south for retirment a few years ago. I still have friends in the area. It is a greta place to live and I am thankful to have spent such a long time there."
  • A M.
"There is nowhere to shop - you have to drive 15 miles to Laurel or Bowie to find a halfway decent grocery store. The new Wegman's in Largo is nice, but very crowded the times I've been there. With the notable exception of Franklin's in Hyattsville, there are no restaurants close to Cheverly (I won't even mention the name of the horrible little Italian place by the Howard Johnson's). Oh and by the way, plan on sending your kids to private schools if you move here."
