I absolutely love this school. They see Black people and people of all colors as human beings and that’s what matters to me. The learning will come, but it is how you treat people. This school understands what it means to be a good human being and exercises that with how they handle our children and each other and their parents.

My two children have been at Shining Star for over six years, and during that time we’ve found beloved teachers who are deeply committed to modeling wisdom, care, and a love of learning. While I initially had reservations about choosing a private Waldorf education rather than a public school model, I’ve become profoundly grateful for this community and for the many gifts my children receive here—joy, meaningful education, connection, friendship, curiosity, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and an approach to learning that truly leads with the heart.The children also take classes in music (both are currently learning cello and viola), folk dance, Japanese language, and handwork such as sewing and knitting. Beyond academics, I’ve found a soulful group of families who deeply care about one another and about supporting the wider community. We move through the seasons together, value art and artistic collaboration, and celebrate life in meaningful ways.I’ve found not only a wonderful parenting community, but have also come to adore my children’s friends. I see these children as a true pack—forming deep, lifelong friendships—and I look forward to witnessing all the magic and creativity they will bring into the world as they help shape a more liberated and compassionate future for everyone.
