"I like it, it feels fine during the day but kind of sketchy at night. there’s homeless people nearby and I make sure to keep an eye out when I’m walking to my car late at night. "

"Close to everything. People seem to take pride in the places and spaces they live in. This is one of those Portland neighborhoods that’s wonderful to aimlessly wander around "

"It’s a walkable area. It’s very green, with plenty of community gardens. It hardly feels like walking in a city"

"Great restaurants bars etc. tons of homeless people but you almost get used to it sadly. Street parking past 12th isn’t too bad"

"Nice cute businesses and dog park nearby. School down the road with soccer practice make it seek residential but still close to the city. "

"I've lived in this neigborhood for over 20 years, both my children went to Buckman an amazing art magnet primary school. People are friendly and it is a safe urban neighborhood. Plus now there are many great places to eat and shop."

"We’ve owned our home for 29 years, raised our 4 children, and now have 9 grandchildren who all went to Buckman school. The neighborhood is extremely walkable, close to freeway access in all directions if needed, neighbors are all friendly and willing to lend a helping hand, walking our pup is like happy hour for dogs, walk or ride s bike to downtown Portland, a multitude of restaurants, bars, bakeries, banks, post office, laurelhurst park, bike routes. I feel proud and fortunate to live in this neighborhood."

"It has a lot of beautiful homes and streets and trees. Used to be quirkier and now is pretty hip. Very safe. "

"I'm on a first name basis with the staff at our corner store, the checkers at our grocery store, and my favorite bartenders. There are still food carts and downtown is walking distance. Also, there's an abandoned hole in the ground nextdoor that's hopefully keeping the rent down."

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe are thrilled with our experience at Buckman Elementary! The classes are less than 25, the teachers are engaged with family life and communicate daily. My daughter is coming home showing off her art, her songs, her dance moves. Well-rounded education with a focus on art, in a public school setting. 9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI went to this school for 7 years. The elementary school teachers are great, with experience and are generally good with kids. I will say that some of them aren't good with involving parents, but that may just be a French thing. As for middle school, most classes are pretty good, we are a year ahead in math which is great, although some students who are at a higher level for math aren't able to have more complex problems. I will be straight up here: science is horrible. The teacher does not know how to teach, and lacks the ability to control a classroom. Curriculum is practically nothing, and the textbook teaches us. Spanish also isn't great. We haven't had the same teacher since third grade, so we've been taught a different dialect every year. Our most recent was an American man who had no idea what he was doing. Google translate was his teacher. Now the good things: since kids start from a young age, they form bonds with a lot of students and teachers, more so then at a normal public school. All classes except for the two I mentioned are exceptional and fun. You graduate being (at least) functionally fluent. The teachers are great, and the classes are informative and really fun. Overall this school is a great school, with small inconveniences. I recommend. I had an amazing time here these past 7 years.Student Review11mo ago3 Reviews
