Boxer Hill Park

My two children have attended this preschool for 3 years and 1 year. The staff are like family--so kind and loving to the children. They have an genuine interest in each child and provide a nurturing environment. I have had no problems/issues at any time. Plus the tuition costs are reasonable (not as affordable as a co-op preschool, but still very good). The administrators are also approachable and friendly. Could not be more pleased with Havenwood!

Many teachers here are wonderful and run thoughtful, child-centered classrooms. However, the school does not seem equipped to support students who fall outside its narrow definition of success. I would not recommend it for children with learning differences, ADHD, or those who are gender nonconforming, as the school does not appear set up to meet their needs effectively.The Head of School’s behavior can feel demeaning and overly rigid. She often speaks down to parents and adheres so strictly to Montessori beliefs that the culture can feel dogmatic. Several strong teachers have been pushed out during her tenure, and there seems to be a lack of understanding of child development, differentiated learning, and research-based educational practice.This school may be a good fit if your child and family align closely with the Head of School’s very specific expectations for how children and parents should behave. If not, I would encourage families to look elsewhere for a school that uses more flexible, evidence-based educational approaches and treats students, parents, and teachers with greater respect and dignity.

The school tends to not support children with ADHD. The teachers and staff will report behavior but I was told flat out that the school lacks staff and funding to address and ADP. The school relies heavily on standardized teaching meaning everyone starts at a base level and the build is slow. This I believe can be boring to my child and has lead to lack of engagement. Still participating at bare minimum and not progressing forward. When requesting a follow up on behavior from the school, it is purely on the parent to follow up. The PTA is great and often supplements resources that the school isn't providing. Communications happens with the parents separately and it appears mutually shared experience. It appears to be better options nearby.
