Both of my special needs daughters entered the hospital homebound program after a traumatic event. My oldest was in 11th and my youngest was in 9th. The teachers were very flexible and understanding of their emotional needs. They also worked with them closely by making sure they both thrived academically. Ms. Suggs helped my oldest stay organized and on task. Ms. Taylor made sure all of the paperwork between my daughter’s psychiatrist and school were in order. She also made sure their IEPs were in compliance, making the transfer back to brick and mortar go smoothly. Ms. Perrin went above and beyond for my youngest, whom was born severely mentally ill and had required psychiatric hospitalization during the school year. My daughter would frequently text / call her on the phone for academic support and she’d even chat with her about cats and dogs because it would lift my daughters mood. She would call me if she seemed to be slipping. She understood schizophrenia, showed a great deal of compassion for (both) my daughters PTSD, and if she didn’t know the answer to something she would immediately find someone who did. It was her love and spirit that has given my daughter the confidence to go back into a school setting. Hospital homebound truly supported my daughters during a heart breaking time period and I will never be able to thank them enough.
