This is a small school where everyone really knows your kid. The community is welcoming and diverse, and it genuinely feels like parents, teachers, and students all have a voice. The teachers and staff truly care, and it shows. My kids have really enjoyed art, music, and LEGO classes, as well as great assemblies and field trips. Outdoor Ed is probably the student favorite. Because the student body is diverse, achievement levels vary, but teachers do teach students at their level through small reading and math groups. The recent outdoor renovation—new playground, turf, and an outdoor classroom—has been an awesome upgrade and is well loved by the students and neighborhood.

If you are considering St. Gregory School for your child, it's important that you look at the whole picture. It is a small school with a very engaged parent community and committed staff. The events, activities and sport programs are very well organized.With that said, the class sizes are 36-37 children and it is difficult for even the most experienced and organized teachers to effectively educate and manage the kid's. Educational excellence does not seem to be the prime focus of St. Greg's.Make sure to do your research on the school to make sure it is the right fit for your child and family.

We came to the Burkard School after my son had an abysmal 1st grade year at a small, progressive private school. As a child who is 3+ years ahead in math, and an advanced reader, finding the right school environment that could actually challenge him, and provide a safe and warm place to strengthen his emotional regulation skills felt like an impossible task. We’ve now been a part of the Burkard community for over 2 years, and the school has continued to work hard to meet his academic needs, and has inspired him to become an eager writer. He also receives support with the SEL aspect of keeping friendships, and we have seen remarkable growth there. He attended 8 weeks of summer camp all around the Peninsula and the South Bay, and did so well! He is more flexible, takes perspective with greater ease, and is more emotionally regulated. When he gets upset by someone or unexpected change now, he is able to engage in problem solving more readily. The daily SEL lessons, along with the support throughout the day have made a tremendous impact in his ability to see himself as a problem solver, and not a problem maker. We couldn't be happier with his school experience, and our experience as members of the parent community.

UP's hands-on, project-based approach to learning has been an excellent fit for my kindergartner. He is happy and excited to go to school and is thriving. UP offers individualized learning, small classes, and a kind, inclusive community.
