"Having a dog in this area is great, I let mine roam without a leash. Every now and then he goes off to somebody else’s yard on accident but everyone’s always very friendly about it"
  • Chalon L.
"The view is great and the crime rate is low. People wave when your drive by and help you out when you’re stuck in a ditch! "

"By far the best thing about this area of town is the breathtaking views. The area is a 4 mile drive up either O'malley or Abbott, to Hillside Drive, to Upper O'Malley and above. Accessibility to restaurants and shopping is rated as a 3 because while there are countless stores, shops, and diners 4 miles directly down the hill, they are not considered 'walking distance' but are easily drivable. Other than school buses, public transportation is rated as poor for this mountainous/ocean view property, as the city bus no longer comes up this far. The closest bus depot is at Dimond Mall (approx 4.2 miles) and there are bus stops as you approach the lower sections of the Hillside (i.e. Alaska Zoo, front of Fred Meyers grocery, Carrs grocery, etc.) Entertainment is rated at a 3 since most locations must be driven to other than mountain biking or skiing out your front door. The area is located very close to Glen Alps State Park and is less than a mile from Hilltop Ski area. It is an excellent location for downhill or cross-country skiers. The area is 3 miles from the H20asis Indoor Water Park, 3.2 miles from the Alaska South Health Club, 3.4 miles from the O'Malley Ice rink and indoor soccer field and 2 miles from the Alaska Zoo. There are multiple public parks throughout the area with playground equipment and tennis courts. There are two indoor pools available for community use (Robert Service High School and H20asis Indoor Waterpark). As you drive off of the hill (4 miles from the upper hillside) there is a Fred Meyer mega-grocery store, a large Carrs-Safeway grocery, a pet clinic, multiple small businesses, bakeries, several frozen yogurt shops, and a medical center. Restaurants in the direct area can be located on Urbanspoon under the area search of "O'Malley" or "Taku". The upper hillside (aka Hillside East) is a special combination of rural beauty overlooking urban sprawl and 'city convenience' which is only minutes straight down the mountain."
