4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageLast review over a decade ago... This school exceeded expectations! I see a lot of positive change to this Lemon Grove Middle School (LGAM) campus and felt I should share some insights. LGAM is a community-school, next to the library and giant lemon, that is medium-large in campus size and well maintained, including beautiful murals. Classroom sizes range 20-30, are clean, organized, and academically challenging (Homework reading and online practice supports like iReady and IXL). LGAM also has wonderful mental health supports such as Social Workers and Psychs, to meet social-emotional needs throughout the day, and even a Dental Clinic for student and families in the district. Looking for a Middle School that honors and appreciates the "whole child" - this is it!One thing really unique about Middle School is the chance to explore and try new things. I think it's great that students have opportunities to be exposed to hands-on activities through CTE (Career Technical Education) options such as Engineering, Digital Media Arts, Speech and Debate, Art History, and Spanish. LGAM has an inclusive learning environment - with strong SPED Department and academic supports - showing me that LGAM Admin and Staff are working hard together to ensure that ALL children have scholastic and behavioral resources and supports needed to succeed! My child tells me about the caring Teachers and Staff and fun Friends they have on campus learning and playing. I'm glad they also have "real P.E." where they dress out daily and learn all kinds of sports building teamwork and confidence. Lunch food has healthy options and the ASB on campus provides fun activities and monthly celebrations. My child especially loves his Science and Engineering Labs! This STEM Teacher sings, plays games and according to him "makes learning actually fun!!"As parents we want the best for our children, whether it's the neighborhood school or one we drive miles or minutes to. I highly recommend LGAM to my family and friends. I hope that Lemon Grove Academy Middle continues to support and value the wonderful Teachers they have on campus, the positive interactions they have with students on a daily basis really do make our children excited to come to school to learn, grow, and live a happy life!Parent Review1y ago10 Reviews - San Miguel Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe are a new family to San Miguel Elementary and have been blown away with our experience since day one! Every level of interaction has been purposeful, energetic, and informative. I am overwhelmed with the opportunities for parent and family engagement. We began the school year with a goal to get involved and did not truly know what to expect. The strive for synergy and desire to create meaningful parent partnerships immediately caught our attention. Ms. Tonya, Secretary, plays an instrumental role as the first line of communication during registration. She is kind, knowledgeable, and prompt in her response leaving a wonderful first impression of the school and truly foreshadowing the greatness to come. Our teacher, Ms. Virgin, is an absolute rockstar with communication and her knowledge of students. Her pedagogy is developmentally appropriate and our son is thriving. Mrs. Jones (Principal) and Mr. J (AP) make a stellar admin duo and their passion is evident in all they do. We feel a sense of family and community as soon as we enter the parking lot each day. We are beyond thankful to be at SME and we can’t wait to see what the future brings!Parent Review3y ago10 Reviews - Mount Miguel High School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son’s schedule was full of engaging teachers who cared for their students even though at times that could be difficult given the clientele of students that attend the school. But, the teachers did care, and for the most part, it seemed as if they were making the absolute best of the situation’s in front of them. My son really wanted to play football at the school, even though I was against the sport for safety reasons, I allowed him to play because I hoped it would build his character. Boy was I wrong. The football coaching staff is flush with men taking their coaching jobs far too seriously and completely ignoring the fact that the young men on their team need social and emotional building as much as they do athletic building. coach Braswell, his coordinator on the team, was simply strange. At first glance I ignored the foul language and machismo building as just part of the deal. By the time I hoped to see the fruit of my son’s labor, I instead saw a kid afraid of his coaches, Braswell in particular, instead of inspired by them. He needed men in life that would see him as an athlete after a student, not an athlete that could be a stepping stone to a coaching job at another school, which I know a few of the coaches see as their trajectory. MMHS, do better!Parent Review8mo ago9 Reviews - Check out schools near Drew Ln.

"Lots of homeless and gangs. Not safe to walk your dog at night. Close to trolley stop if you use public transit. Fair holiday spirit several good restaurants. "

"If you can make it to the trolley reliably, as busses are regularly being rerouted or rescheduled, mass transit is doable. Otherwise, a car is necessary. Massachusetts & Broadway are a mess during rush house, but it moves quickly. "

"I don’t know of any community events that I have taken place in the last couple of years. There is a boys and girls club but apart from that I don’t see a lot of community events taking place in this part of town"

"I walk everywhere. Every place is walking distance. You shouldn’t walk at night though because it gets very sketchy and scary. Also keep your kids close, there’s a lot of perverts around the area. But other than that, it’s cool to have places that are within walking distance. "

"Love the church here. Christian Church of Lemon Grove. Most people are nice. Lots of diversity. There are some maintenance things that could change and we could use some more nice restaurants but all in all we like the central location."

"I have a long commute to Carmel mountain five days a week. However, I like my neighborhood. neighbors are friendly and approachable. Sometimes the house from the trolley is annoying, but overall the neighborhood is nice. I'm done for today. signing off now."

"I used to live in this area growing up and I loved it. it was a peaceful area. I moved away for a long time and now moving back it is still peaceful but a lot more run down. I feel like people dont have an option to have a green beautiful home anymore. "

"I have lived in the neighborhood for 15 years. People generally are too busy to care about anything, you do get the odd family who play in the road and have fun. We love our home and are near retirement so we will in a couple of years move to a more affordable state."
