7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFantastic school community. We love that our son has teacher teams in 6th grade. They are awesome! The academics are quite good and the after school activities are varied and fun. One of the best aspects is the school/home communication -- top notch. I was apprehensive, initially, to send my son here, because lets face it...middle school is a crazy age. But after six months I can honestly say it is great here. Facilities are the best around; the counselor and administration are visible and helpful. Great school.Parent Review6y ago11 Reviews - Santa Margarita Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAttended this school for 2 years, the principal wasn’t not helpful on any concerns we had. Played favorites, didn’t follow regulations for health and food safety. My child was very good and would get written up if they weren’t running fast enough to line up. I have another child who went there and these write ups affected them to high school. If another child was physical or inappropriate the principal would not hear our concern and made my child feel like they were in trouble, taking from their class time. The class sizes had 32 kids, way too large of a class for one teacher. They tried to split up the kids who needed more help and made them feel left out and behind more. No structure, I would have been better off homeschooling since we mostly did that anyways due to the lack of daily interaction with each student. The programs being offered like free lunch were not helpful due to the rude lunch lady who would make my child go to the back of the line if they forgot the lunch number. Very discouraging. Would not recommend champions either, teachers will not help your child open any snacks if they tried to open it with their mouth, even though they are kids just trying to figure it out themselves. There’s some clubs your student could join, those could be fun, but due to the other issues, we never wanted to stay long, discouraging staff. They will write your child up and blame the child for being late instead of hearing the parent. I’ve heard staff in the office tell children to SHH and be quiet when they were hurt from being forced to sit outside and eat lunch off the ground on the hot blacktop in May. Used a thermometer to measure the ground was reading 100 degrees. Way too hot and exhausting for children, also unclean. The bathrooms will be closed and kids won’t know why, my child wasn’t able to use the restroom and I had to ask why they were closed, staff said to go to the office. Our children are supposed to have more than one facility. This school try’s to get away with little things throughout the year that completely are inhumane. Hopefully a new principal could come in and help soon. Would not return my child there until there’s changes for the better of the children we are raising.Parent Review1y ago11 Reviews - Check out schools near Carmel Rd.

"Wildlife and rural feel and close to town in Atascadero. We are 1/2 miles to grocery stores but have to be careful to not hit a deer driving home "

"There are a lot of good walking trails and parks. There aren’t very many dog friendly businesses, but there are plenty of pet supply stores, vets, etc. "

"The shops and such aren’t very dog friendly, but there are several nice parks and walking trails in and around town that make it an ideal spot to have dogs. There’s also at least one pet supply store in town, several vets (including an emergency vet), and dog groomers. "

"Lots of hills, they are beautiful but not ideal for safety when it comes to bike riding. It's great for experienced riders, as long as cars are polite and drive slow. I wish we had sidewalks and bike lanes. Tons of deer, that's the best part!! The deer are very comfortable in this neighborhood, they are a joy to watch. We are in a forest in essence, oak trees, hills and deer for days! "

"Lots of dog families in the neighborhood with responsible and friendly owners. Most people clean up after their dogs. Downside are the increased number of homeless people some with dogs. "

"Quiet neighborhood with lots of wildlife. We love living here, it's so serene. Oak tree's everywhere, hills and apple trees. It's a dream to be here in the forest but still in town."

"Summer concerts in the park means grab your own adult beverage, a lawn chair, and the family and hang out in the grass listening to great music. Kids can play on playground... don’t forget picnic dinner! Yearly driving car show is the best! Lake feels like heart of this town."

"I've lived in this neighborhood for four years and the neighborhood is very family oriented and rural living is cherished. The neighborhood is nestled between the Salinas river Pine mountain and chalk mountain. There are tons of deer and boat loads of beautiful birds that call the neighborhood home too. Great hiking trails are on either end of the neighborhood and there are tons of fun outdoors things to keep children busy; hiking, biking, collecting turtles and lizards, fishing back yard camping, horseback riding, raising chicks, gardening This is one of the better neighborhoods to raise up well grounded kids."

"It’s rural, but with great neighbors. We have wild life around us and we are on enough land to have our own animals and 4H projects here. The weather is warm but not as warm as it is farther north. "
