6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe were nervous about enrolling our daughter here, but have been pleased with the smooth transition. She loves her classes and especially enjoys band. It helps if your child has good grades and can be in the advanced classes. Discipline has not been a problem; I think the administration has worked hard to correct past problems. I'd like to see administration encourage more parent invovlvement opportunities and not just "parenting/discipline" classes. Parents are an untapped resourse at this school.Parent Review12y ago - Ruben Chavira Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThere are bad teachers, good teachers and outstanding teachers like everywhere else in this school district. I think the problem is that this school is in a Barrio area where most people are uneducated and have no intention in giving intellectual, moral or social instruction to their own children; thus, resulting in extremely bad behavior. It is a constant struggle for teachers to focus on academics when there is so much interruption. The UIL/GT/Leader In Me programs among other extra-curricular activities are great but it’s the parent that needs to sign up the student. Unlike before when students were chosen, by their teachers, for their own academic achievement/talent. The GT program is a joke; my children were nominated several times during their time at RCE, both A Honor Roll students. My oldest mastered the STAAR test since year one and still was not chosen. I did notice during award ceremonies that many GT students didn’t even make it up the stage to receive the A/B Honor Roll award. Another observation, most students in GT are the ones related to staff or VIP parents. If you are stuck in this school, or school district, find ways to help your child succeed, communicate any concerns with his/her teachers, and stay informed.Parent Review4y ago - Del Rio Middle School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageGood music program, all of the band kids hang out together & stay out of trouble. Fair academic programs. Definately get your child involved with UIL (it starts early in the school year). This school was much better than I expected, my daughter didn't have any trouble with fights or bullies. Drop off & pick up is a huge pain in the neck.Parent Review10y ago - Check out schools near Lot 7 Calle Cocobolo.

"Everyone is the community is friendly and helpful, especially with a dog. We basically all know each other and if we don’t we are very inviting. This neighborhood is very safe to go for a walk safely, Even after dark. I call it home sweet home "

"I’ve lived here for a week. I left most of my belongings outside and no one bothered with it. Neighbors have been great and the traffic is minimal. "
- Debra

"Very quiet neighborhood, most people keep to themselves. You rarely see children outside playing. Some of the schools are close, a Junior College is nearby as well as a small park, well maintained park. There is a variety of fast food chains as well as restaurants fairly close. Plenty of daycares within a short distance. "

"There are many people who walk their dogs daily in this area. Also a park down the street that you can take and let them run freely without any harm"

"Need a car to get around. There is public transportation but none near neighborhoods. Traffic is minimal"
- Omar M.

"At work in 15 min. If I worked on town, it would take 5 minutes to 10 minutes at the most. Some public transportation but the city has just about everything within miles of wherever you live. Roads are starting to get paved which makes it a smoother ride."

"people hardly walk, and I never see anyone clean after there dogs but there are alot of stray dogs out in this neighborhood not many are friendly or clean"
- Carrie K.

"Dogs are always running wild. People leave dogs out for days on end. Even if people keep the dogs in their homes they’ll let them go outside to potty without any leashes, or fenced yards. "

"The city is very family oriented, however still kinda dangerous.. many people cross the river and can break into your home or kidnap .. not a city to let you kids loose unless you live in gated community "
