When my husband and I told our family and friends that we were sending our child to Camp Taylor Elementary, they warned us that Camp Taylor's test scores were low and that it wasn't a magnet school. They said that our child would be better off at Audubon or a private school. After much consideration, we decided to send our child to Camp Taylor when he entered Kindergarten, and he is graduating today from 5th grade. My husband and I could not have been happier with the teachers, principal, vice principal, PTA, and staff. Our child felt safe, felt supported, and he thrived throughout his educational journey at Camp Taylor. The student population is beautifully diverse, and he has been learning Spanish from his friends. He is heading to Highland Middle School in the Fall with several of the friends he has made at Camp Taylor, and he is excited and feels academically ready to move on. I would like to point out that test scores do not paint an accurate picture of a school's performance. For instance, Camp Taylor's student population consists of a high number of children who are learning to speak English and/or come from lower socio-economic backgrounds; therefore, they do not have access to tutors and face challenges that hinder their academic success. These factors negatively and inaccurately reflect the school's performance and should not be heavily weighed in the decision-making process when choosing a school for your child. Cheers to JCPS!

seneca high school has changed in both good and bad ways ... but were headed in the right direction DO IT THE RED HAWK WAY

The walls are covered in school-sponsored political statements in every leftist opinion you could think of. While this in itself is no problem the school directly blocks any opinions they disagree with from the walls of their school when they ask the children to design posters. The school suffers from various budget cuts and removes educational classes (at least as educational as a class at Highland can be) but at the same time they hire four new mental health counselors, purchase three new flat screens for the cafeteria, spends more on vegetarian options for lunch, as well as clubs and sports that lose the school money. They speak of discrimination but have many female-only sports and clubs, including a new addition to for these children called; "Girl Group" where any student who has XX chromosomes can stop school work fifty minutes early to discuss women's rights and how they are marginalized by this institution that has taken a dark path. I myself went to this school and want the best for it.
