6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a former student of this school i do not recommend this school or at least right now this school was built in 1957 when i walk into the cafeteria on the wall near the doors i see 5-9 awards but that means nothing just a plastic poster with a year and how well the school did on that year its really impressive how good they kept the school saying it has lasted like 75 years with no rebuilding i really hope i was born 7-8 years later so i could go to the new building the building itself is just old saying how long ago it was built maybe your child is in 2st grade well maybe go to this school if your child is in 5st grade in 2021 dont suggest going right now choose another school this place is way to crowded with the old building and that's why i said if you or your child is 2nd or lower by that time they are in 5-7th they would have built the new design with bigger student capacity and space to learn the teachers are good its just if you listen or if you really want to learn as a person that Procrastinate when i can it sure isnt good but i sure did learn a lot just paying attention and turning in work the school sure does have a lot of feild but they did not design it properly most common sport is just frisbee looking at the plans of them making a two floor school that could save a lot of space and expand more for students to learn i really think if your child is going to turn 6th grade in fall of 2025 then try putting them in this school with the teachers that stuck with this school for more than 10 years of teaching the same thing and a new design that could fit more students i really think they could get 2-20 more plastic posters with another 64ish years of opening wish you luck on how you choose your childs school just hope you dont put your child in this school from 2021-2024 because its already crowded and how much portables they had to put out around the school to have place for students to learn school board did rearrange some people to go to other schools because of the overcrowded school i really just hate how it took them 64ish years and now they are planning on rebuilding with the councils pending on signing the "landmark structure" they really care more about keeping old buildings then how much quality the students will learn when staying in the building good thing they are not being cheap this time and having a 152.5M dollars budget wish you and your child the best and hope you find a good school for them to be eduacted inOther Review2y ago - Franklin High School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe were worried that our teen, coming from a small private school, would have difficulties at such a large, diverse high school. Franklin High was the best choice we ever could have made. Our teen is getting more from the experience at Franklin than we ever dreamed. The kids are great, welcoming, tolerant, fun, and even polite to adults (I always appreciate that). The academics are challenging and prepare students well, as our teen's PSAT scores would attest. AP and honors classes make for lots of homework, but there is also plenty of fun happening too. Our teen is stronger, smarter, and happier because she goes to Franklin. There is not a bunch of privileged, entitled kids expecting everything to be handed to them, judging others who have less. It's a good place to be.Parent Review9y ago - Van Asselt Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have had three kids at Van Asselt, starting 7 years ago. We have had a great experience. Our first child was an above-average learner, and he was given special opportunities to stretch himself, including advanced math, reading challenges and after school sports. Our second child is "2E", meaning he has both giftedness and a very impacting learning disability. He has been given great adaptations through his Individual Learning Plan, but also ways to stretch like violin lessons, choir, school musical, teachers who encourage him to bring his inventions to school. He has gotten great support from the school counselor when he was discouraged and stressed. And the counselor was there for me in a crisis moment as well. Our third child has significant developmental delays, and has been protected, supported, challenged and even cherished at Van Asselt. Technology and science are also emphasized. Curriculum includes a strong emphasis of emotional intelligence and empathy. I love Van Asselt because my kids are learning to work and grow in a diverse environment, taking direction and seeing leadership from adults of many cultures. Principal turnover has been high, unfortunately. We have seen three. But there is a great stable core of staff members, and the new staff being hired are of the highest caliber. The current principal is a really focused leader, making partnerships to bring in great resources for the school, such as City Year volunteers in the classrooms. I also have to mention the teaching assistants. They have brought such a family feel to our experience, knowing the kids, providing support when the kids are down, giving them positive messages. We feel so grateful that Van Asselt just happens to be our neighborhood school.Parent Review8y ago - Check out schools near 6961 Ellis Ave S #B.

"Great location with an artistic local scene. Fun shops and eateries as well as pubs. There's a great playfield that host loads of intramural sports leagues. And it's minutes from SODO, Pioneer Sq., Capitol Hill and Belltown. Definitely an eclectic hood that blends business and residential living."
