6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWhittier is a real gem. We are moving into our second year there and we love it. Their staff and teachers are diligent, kind and committed. There is a culture id accountability and enthusiasm. There is also a host of ways for students to feel a part of the school. School plays and team sports. They have a tv show that is really quite good and the students love it. Chess club and a community garden are just two of the fun offerings. Principal Johnson leads with joy and integrity. She knows every student by name and finds ways to cheer for her team. We love it.Parent Review7mo ago - Coolidge High School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AveragePrimary concern: SAFETY!!!!… Teachers don’t come to work and the students are pretty much left to do whatever they want on most school days. When a parent calls to complain, the staff argues with the parents in an attempt to dispute and invalidate the complaint. School-wide discipline polices are found to be inconsistent since they are not enforced.Parent Review1y ago - Ida B. Wells Middle School

"Quiet neighborhood, five minutes to bus stop, fifteen minutes to Takoma subway. Elementary, Charter School, High School, Recreation Center, two libraries. Beautiful in all four seasons. "

"It's still a quaint, quiet area with still a few Senior Citizens who have been here 40 years or so. As they move out, or pass on, a nice diversity of middle classed family's move in. My first home was 3 blocks toward Silver Spring. I liked the area which is why I purchased the second home in Manor Park as well. Homes are still affordable for a middle class salary. Residents keep the outside of their homes clean with manicured lawns. Downtown Silver Spring is a great area for entertainment with restaurants; movies; light shopping; etc, and it isn't far. Takoma Metro stop is also walking distance and about 3 minutes on the bus. Overall, great location!"

"I looked in the area for 18 months before purchasing and I'm glad I waited - because I would not have thought of living in this part of D.C. Our street is quiet, safe, with charming brick bungalows and tudors. People are very considerate and active. "
