Being a current student, this school is exactly great. The teachers help with your grades and the students are well behaved and smart.

school cares more about our electronics and students not learning, fighting, and smoking in classrooms

CHS is a great school. I have a totally different background and was worried about bullies but I have been received with love and kindness. Excellence is celebrated regardless of where you come from. Teachers interact with us like their own children. I am a 9th grader and can say I absolutely enjoy school. My teachers are already discussing college courses with me.Future Aeronautical Engineer,Oluwadamilare.

I can say that at East Side I had experiences and opportunities that was only possible because of east Side like ECC program, where I graduated from High School with my Associates degree already

I just was awarded section 8. I was so excited. I wanted to move out of Newark. Then I received a letter from Malcolm Shabazz stating that my son was one of 6 students in Newark district schools that was awarded a scholarship to Lincoln Tech. All expenses paid. Malcolm Shabazz also informed us that not only will he be graduating next year with honors from there but also Lincoln Tech. They informed us upon graduating in would receive an additional scholarship for 85,000, to further his education. My son was and is so excited. So as for me moving out of Newark, not happening now. My son's dreams have to come first. Thank you Malcolm Shabazz for caring so much about my child and his future!

what can we do to make our schools better? It's up to us to make a difference with our schools and city. Stop complaining about what's so bad about it and make a change.

The education system in the building is very strong and positive. The staff and students welcome you with open arms and show u the right way to be in the building. West side is full of positive attitudes and positive people.

This school has been nothing but a complete disappointment from start to finish. They somehow managed to “lose” important requirements and documents, which already shows a shocking level of disorganization and lack of accountability. On top of that, the quality of teaching is absolutely terrible—lessons feel unstructured, unengaging, and it’s clear that many of the teachers either don’t care or simply aren’t qualified to be in a classroom. The attitudes of the staff are just as bad; instead of being supportive and professional, they come across as rude, dismissive, and unwilling to help students succeed. It’s incredibly frustrating as a parent to see your child placed in an environment where the people responsible for their education act like they don’t even want to be there.And to make matters worse, even the security staff contribute to the negative atmosphere—one security guard spoke to me with a completely unnecessary attitude, as if basic respect and courtesy were too much to ask for.
