1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageYa know despite the fact that the school is overall not a great place, I've been having a great experience! You'll be good as long as you don't heavily involve yourself with a bunch of various persons and their business. Be careful not to mess with people, but if that does end up happening just tell a staff member about it, it doesn't seem like people try to harass the people their friends are harassing (at least for me). A bunch of my teachers are really supportive, I like all of them except for my biology teacher, and a lot of the teachers seem to be going from decent to pretty good at what they are teaching, and if you can look in the right place, you can make great relationships with fellow students! Even the ones who are rough around the edges are pretty good people! Overall, I'm having fun here! I could've chosen to stay at the high rated school I was at, but I decided to transfer here and I'm not regretting it!Student Review2y ago - Central High School

Excellence is celebrated regardless of where you come from. Teachers interact with us like their own children. I am a 9th grader and can say I absolutely enjoy school. 1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI just was awarded section 8. I was so excited. I wanted to move out of Newark. Then I received a letter from Malcolm Shabazz stating that my son was one of 6 students in Newark district schools that was awarded a scholarship to Lincoln Tech. All expenses paid. Malcolm Shabazz also informed us that not only will he be graduating next year with honors from there but also Lincoln Tech. They informed us upon graduating in would receive an additional scholarship for 85,000, to further his education. My son was and is so excited. So as for me moving out of Newark, not happening now. 4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThere is hope here at South 17 Street School I noticed soon I walked in the school hallways. Being known as a BD school it's not all good around the city of Newark but being able to handle those BD students is something very "magical". Making an impact on shaping the mindsets and future of tomorrow. We must not look down on the current situations in Newark Public Schools but also finding a need to change those mis calculation that tend to set back a school .... let's work in moving forward with rebuilding South 17th Street School which is effective for the BEAVERS!!Parent Review1y ago

"That their owners are not really responsible for their doggie waste. The neighborhood looks like a landfill because of the abandoned houses and is still flooded with gangs however they are police officers in squad cars patrolling the neighborhoods. "

"Terrible neighborhood, people do not take care of their property or even right in front of it! The street cleaning people do a horrible job and some days when they’re supposed to come they don’t. People are rude & nosey and very inconsiderate"
