Located just south of the Mogollon Rim, Bear Flat is carved out of the Tonto National Forest. It is cooler than Payson and receives some of the highest precipitation in the state. It receives regular monsoon showers in the summer and snow in the winter. It is two hours or less from the Phoenix area and a short drive to Payson, Christopher Creek, Kohl’s Ranch, Pine, and Strawberry and yet is totally secluded on a private, gated road inaccessible to through traffic, hikers, and campers.

This hillside home was built in 1958 and has been tastefully remodeled, leaving the original brick and knotty pine. The property is one of the most desirable in the entire community – it borders perennial waterways on two sides, Tonto Creek and Columbine Spring. The spring features several pools and large waterfalls. On a third side, the property borders Tonto National Forest. The second story decks provide spectacular views overlooking both. The main floor has an open kitchen and living room space with a river rock fireplace and children’s sleeping loft. There is a large laundry room and pantry and the third bedroom can be converted into a formal dining room. There are modern appliances in the kitchen, and the recently remodeled bathroom features new tile work and a custom vanity.

Payson is a vey outdoorsy place with 35 hiking trail around the city limits and many, many more trails, water areas, camping etc. Truly an outdoor persons dream place."
