Both of my children graduated from MHS. They were both in the Engineering program and took all AP classes while attending as well as played sports. They both started their Freshman year in college as a second semester freshman with 16 credit hours from MHS. They were totally prepared for college and both graduated on time in 4 years with Business degrees. They are both employed and doing quite well in their chosen professions.

I honestly do not recommend this school even tho the principle is nice. Its not acceptable for my child to have a sub ALL YEAR for the past 2 years. Im not gonna even talk about teacher turnover. My child cannot read on grade level and their math is several years behind compared to they cousins math who went to College Bound. i am so embarrased that I let my child go to this school. I should've put them in Salk or Carnegie. Do yourself a favor n put your child in Carnegie. My child is a 5th grader so its too late for us and of coarse my child didnt get into a magnet middle school because they are so far behind but suposedly not many 5th graders here even get into a magnet school cuz of they test scores. I am so thankful that my other children got accepted into another elementary school for next year and hopefully will be able to catch up.

My children and I love Mayo Demonstration. The principal knows every child by name and greets everyone each morning. The teachers are top notch and really care about each student. The nontraditional, hands on style of teaching is truly a blessing. Mayo is truly a great school!!

I love the environment and surroundings of my school.

I went to this for one year, one year only. I hated it so much that I wanted to write a book to vent about it. If I could I would rate this school a zero. You know why? Not many will hear this in a review, but the school had the streaming of obscenity that teachers seemed not to notice. As you will see in other reviews it talk about cherry picking - picking high grade students- what they don't tell you is they don't pick their students very well. For teachers and all people that don't know about carver and people in carver, the kids at carver and teachers cussed, talked about porn, teachers not being aware, distractions like crazy; students distracting me and other students in class, bully a lot, discrimination; students using racial slurs, teachers that don't really like their job; which I would prefer them to for other students that are still there, it put me under tremendous stress; the students would call me buck head and nerd,and etc... I can't say anymore , there is much more, than that because I'm running, but I'm running out of characters. All I have to say is don't go to this school if you want to be bullied and desensitized to violence a crude stuff.

I graduated from Thoreau after it reopened in 1999. While middle school can be socially challenging anywhere, my experience at the school was academically and psychological traumatic. Teachers did not teach foundational academic concepts in many cases. For example, when I attended, we were not taught basic middle school math curriculum. Since math builds upon itself, not learning the basics put me severely behind in high school. Class sizes were very large, even with a para teacher in the class, and there was too much emphasis on group projects versus individual accountability. There were a lot of thug type students / gangbangers in training there since the admissions are not based on academic merit, it’s just a lottery from various parts of town with no credentials. Lord of very mean kids that would bully others.I’ve heard it has declined even more and sadly, was at its best early on when I attended. Thankfully, I left TPS for private school, but would have had a happier experience going to one of the many excellent private schools. Pls look carefully prior to sending your child here if you have other options!

6th year as a Zarrow Aguila! Bitter sweet to see my Aguila fly off to middle school. She has had a time of her life and 5th grade graduation ceremony is ready to send her off as a well rounded, prepared young lady. Diversity around her makes her proud of the uniqueness she has to offer. Loved every day of class and every single teacher and staff, current and past, that school had offered. Always willing to help child and never losing child's best interest. PTA! Wow! Hats off as well. PARENTS AND TEACHERS, true meaning of working hand in hand! Thank you!

This is a small school and they feel like family. I am very proud that my children are attending this school.
