Northwood is a truly wonderful school. My son is in their special education Pre-K program, and they’re so supportive. When looking for a school, I didn’t want him to be expected to change to fit the environment. I wanted the environment to support his growth. I’ve found that here. They spend time figuring out what works best for each kiddo to help them meet their full potential. They even have a sensory room that was put together with the help of an occupational therapist for kids that need a break. My son’s teachers have always been nothing short of amazing. They communicate with me about his progress and if he needs help with something in particular, and while of course teaching is their priority they never put that over the well-being of their students. I wish I went here when I was a child, instead of being bullied by my 1st grade teacher lol. Northwood has a community and environment unlike anything I’ve ever seen at a school and it makes me so happy that my son goes here.

Romig is an awesome school. The gifted program has made me so much more confident and I have grown so much in the past year. The teachers there are all so encouraging and supportive. Thank you HG 7th grade teachers!!

I live in the Service neighborhood area, but I chose to go to West High for a reason. I am currently a 9th grader. West has the best students in Alaska by a landslide. It has the only IB program, the only Highly Gifted program, and some of the best sports teams in the state. It has so many opportunities for students to take. Through my first semester, my teachers have been great. If something is wrong, just talk to them and they are more than happy to fix it. Most of the students in the neighborhood school program aren't the best learners, or at least aren't motivated to learn. However, motivated students have options for a high level of learning. West is in the Anchorage School District, which has had some problems with funding recently, so some programs may be cut. However, I would still recommend West as the high school of choice in Anchorage. If it is too long of a drive, Service High and South High aren't bad options either.
