7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe review from the parent who gave Big Flats 1 star is spot on.. They tried insinuating my 2nd grader needed to be seen because "he had too much energy" So when we took him in the Doctor said to disregard that teacher, she sends all the kids to be seen who dont walk on her dotted line. I got a letter sent home saying "today during story time he crawled around on the mat and this is unacceptable" Then they threatened to suspend him for violating the school zero tolerance policy by drawing a picture of his Lego men having a battle. Some of the teachers there are great, others get away with imposing their views on your kids.Parent Review10y ago - Horseheads Senior High School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIntensive scheduling where half the semester was literally retaking old tests taught me how to take a test, but was a HUGE setback in effectively writing papers, problem solving, or learning much more than how to take a test. If the district hasn't done away with it, DON'T let your children be roped into the Regents program!Other Review3y ago - Horseheads Middle School

"Old architecture, rich city history, small town feel, lots of community events, close to many shops/stores, close highway access, quiet neighborhoods"
- Kiahreaves

"Within good distance, could be better though but the area as a whole is boring and small townish. Most things are close but for some they have to drive to the next town/county over to get to work as the job selection here is not the greatest."

"Neighborhood and parks aren't very safe. Shootings and drug busts are pretty common. School district changed a few years ago and has become a lot worse."

"I retired and moved South to a warmer climate and ocean. I used to walk this charming are with best architectural older home that are mostly Georgean and Tutor built in the 20's and 30's. These homes near Boston, DC or NYC would go for 10x their value in Elmira."

"It is not a huge city or anything but it is pretty easy to get just about anything you would need in the area. People for the most part are friendly and helpful, There is not much of a night life around here though:[ It is a nice area for those not wanting a big city life but also not wanting to live way out in the country."
