One of the classic properties in Doylestown Borough. The 'John Barclay' house is 202 years old this year. It was built in 1814 as the home of John Barclay, an attorney and later a judge for Bucks County and is listed on the historic registry. When the county seat was moved from Newtown to Doylestown, but before the courthouse was completed, cases were heard in John Barclay's home. The original three story stone portion has remained remarkably the same. There are two frame additions to the back. It oozes charm and ambiance with built-in bookcases and original wood floors. It could easily become a single family residence again with the addition of a new kitchen and bath conversions. It would be a spectacular home within walking distance of everything in the center of town. There could be 5 fireplaces including one walk in fireplace. In the rear of the property is a separate carriage house which is included in the sale. It is presently rented for $950 a month. The carriage house consists of Living/Dining Room, Kitchen, Bedroom and Bath. Located across the street from the Bucks County Bar Association, two blocks from the courthouse, the new justice center and Main Street everything is within walking distance including great shopping, dining and public transportation. With off street parking in the rear for 11 cars the Barclay house has been operated as a law firm for the past 17 years and an architect's office prior to that.
