4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI was gonna save my reviews until my child graduated from the school however he is now in a transfer because of the school the new principal along with the principles and administrative staff deflect on behavior issues that disrupt the learning process with the class this school has become a decline of neatness from being a generational student myself we have gone from making parents accountable for their children's behavior to allowing students to do what they want to do when they want to do it without allowing Physical consequence For the actions thanks such as home suspensions parent-teacher and administrative conferences and all of those things. A lot of the teachers are Really really great lesson providers and they do their best to keep the learning process going however the administrative staff do not back them up and all the principal cares about is her LGBTQ and all the other letters where she's enforcing that behavior process yet alone that The issues were volving around the financial stability of the school they are no longer parent community oriented and and the administrative staff only deals with issues that scratch their back or make them feel superior not accountable. It was a hard decision to let my child go from that school however the school that they attend now is a much better school and it's so crazy because Jefferson used to be one of the top DCP S junior high schools I don't know if it was because they converted to a middle school whatever it is if you know that your child excels in the learning process do not send your child here unless it is an ultimate decision where you had to make a serious sacrifice because I guarantee you They will not learn much if the teacher has to be the counselor the parent the teacher and the provider all Within a 45 minute period of 20 to 25 plus students. I am extremely disappointed of the new curriculum way that they handle things I am extremely disappointed of the new curriculum way that they handle things. And it's so crazy because a lot of their staff has already left I can count how many times my child has had to go without a subject teacher With the school year So until they fix the behavior disciplinary process this school will go down in rocksOther Review1y ago3 Reviews - Van Ness Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWhat a gem this school is! We absolutely love the school. Our daughter is in kindergarten and she has had the best experience here. Everyone from Principal Rivers to my daughter's teacher work very very hard to ensure success for the children. My husband previously taught elementary school for 13 years in Maryland and, before she attended Van Ness, we'd actually considered local private schools in the area. However, after this year, we are convinced that she could not receive a better education anywhere else. We will definitely be staying put!Parent Review4y ago1 Reviews - Check out schools near 1300 4th St SE.

"Proximity to everything! Health conscious residents and facilities/areas to use when you want to engage in sport or active lifestyle. Diversity is also a plus here. People are generally friendly and accepting of theirs. Dining is the bomb! So many cool restaurants to visit. Also very family friendly. It’s a great place to raise young children. "

"It’s on the water in DC. Other than that it’s not very unique, not a lot of character like other neighborhoods in DC."

"This neighborhood is great for young families. Parks with playgrounds are within a 10 minute walk and there is tons of green space for kids to play. With that said, it’s primarily young professionals and young families so you don’t see many people with children over age 7ish. "

"In the summer we have free yoga classes hosted by Vida fitness and free concerts, both by the water. The local Lululemon also hosts a free yoga class. Additionally there is a free movie night in the park on M street in the summer and an ice skating ring in the winter. "

"Community seems equally apt for young, single adults and families with children and pets. Could use more green space (trees and gres) in parts of community not as near to the waterfront, but that’s a flaw inherent to this newly developed area robust with apt buildings rather than residential homes"

"We have lived here for over 8 years, have seen a great deal of the change. We love it! Everything you need is within walking distance. Great options for food, outdoor spaces, culture, entertainment, and increasingly shopping. It IS urban living so there are the normal irritations but the great far outweighs them. "
