What Locals Say about Ivy City

"there is a homeless people shelter around the corner, constant ambulances and police are there. Not a good place to live if you'd like to take a quick walk outside. "

"Try to get the pack back that the homeless and the drug addicted to over and more things for our youth can do "

"I’ve lived here for 2 years, it’s a little dicey with the homeless shelter and panhandlers, but it’s got a great character, needs more residents."

"Fun up and coming neighborhood with local distilleries, breweries, and even a cidery. On the outskirts of DC, so residents tend to have more artsy and creative jobs vs work in politics. A bit tricky without a car as the metro is not within walking distance, but lots of new retail coming in that I believe will make Ivy City much more of a destination in the next few years! "

"This is a new, up and coming neighborhood in DC. While there's still lots of room for development, there are some wonderful assets in this industrial neighborhood! Four distilleries and a brewery within walking distance, a local fish market with super friendly service, an organic grocery store, and an urban winery/music venue slated to open this month. (April 2018) Lots of retail [including Target] coming in the next year(s) and neighbors are friendly! Ivy City Smokehouse and La Puerta Verde can't be beat, and Ari's Diner has THE BEST pancakes. For real, I don't even like pancakes!! Downsides: it's difficult without a car, lots of "transients" in the neighborhood who will approach you, and very little green space, so not ideal for dogs. (Though National Arboretum is pretty close!) Hoping improvements in those areas are also on the horizon! "
