What Locals Say about North Barrington

  • Gerald_murphy30
"Everyone owns a dog. It’s common. Many own more than one. Cats and fish and lizards are welcome too."
  • Frank Milazzo
"I would say that there are not sidewalks in this community which makes it more difficult to walk dogs. "
  • Leonewaldron
"Very pretty and safe. A little too conservative though. Garners market nearby and in town. Bike and running trails a short drive away."
  • George K.
"Not sure. I haven’t used it yet. Probably not that convenient. Highway 12 and rural roads need vast improvement. Poor lighting everywhere. That’s all I have to say about that. "
  • Gummybear72
"I'm glad I don't have to deal with rush hour. I travel north in the morning so I am going in light traffic. I see all the cars backed up going south. I wonder if the rt. 53 extension will ever get done. That would ease some of the backup. "
  • Bernard O.
"Not much. Village allows chickens to be raised by residents and officials do not enforce any control over it. "
  • Bblanchard6114

"It’s an oasis from the suburbs. It’s hilly, wooded, with streams and a lake, and each house is unique. There are deer, fox, and all kinds of woodland critters. It’s a really beautiful place to live. "

"This is an awesome neighborhood. Casual to fine dining within a few minutes. Privacy when you want it, and social network when you need it. Everyone walks their dogs or goes for a stroll. Barrington Schools are highly recognized for superiority in education. The Cuba Township Highway team maintains the roads well, especially clearing during the winter."
  • Lckgeo
"Located in Wynstone CC; it is a true "secret" outside its security gate; it has everything from outstanding security, great family neighborhood with plenty of activities for adults and kids and unbelievable beauty. Nothing else really like it."
  • Rbs280
"Quality Custom Built Home - Excellent Schools - abuts Lake County Forest Preserve, 600 acres behind home , over looking Grassey Lake. Beautiful 200 year old Oaks, large open flat yard , You are in the country, but close to everything > Nicest area North West of Chicago. "
  • Patricia M.
"North Barrington is a great place to leave. Wynstone, located in North Barrington, is the famous 750-acre idyllic gated golf community in this area. Wynstone Golf course was designed by Jack Nicklaus! It is one of the top 20 private courses in Illinois, and it's the only non-public Nicklaus Design course in the state! You have a chance to become a resident and new homeowner in this community of roughly 1000 residents leaving in 440 luxury homes nestled around the golf course! "
  • Steve K.
"We have lived in a house which adjoins this development for over 17 years. It is a hilly, treed area, with lots of ponds, an amazing range of wildlife, and a wide assortment of architectural styles -- no "cookie-cutter tract homes" here! It is a great place for running, biking or dog-walking. In fact, we have already used the hiking trails in this conservation community and, I kid you not, there are many places where you feel like you are in pristine wilderness -- no homes or development in sight, just trees, grasses and native wildflowers. It really is quite lovely. The neighborhood includes many different types of families, from younger people with kids in school, to older empty-nesters and others nearing retirement. If you like, we have a wine-tasting club, community yard sales, occasional ice cream socials, and neighborhood holiday parties. Many people meet neighbors while walking for exercise (and meeting neighbor dogs as well!) Very large forest preserve areas with great hiking/walking/biking options are just 5-15 minutes away. Metra commuter train service is about 15 minutes away in either Barrington or Fox River Grove. Got a boat? Launch on the Fox River just 10 minutes away. Traffic is not a problem at all -- just an occasional passing car, usually a local resident. There is a small, attractive shopping center less than 3/4 mile away with a 7/11 store, bank, excellent Italian bistro, cleaners, spa, doctors' offices, etc. It is no problem to easily get what you need. While it does require a car, you can also get to major shopping venues, including Wauconda (Jewel/Osco supermarket and drug store, Walgreens, many restaurants and shops in a quaint downtown and lakeside area) -- just 5-7 minutes away -- and Lake Zurich, with more supermarkets, Costco, Home Depot, many fine and casual restaurants and shops is just 10 minutes away. Downtown Barrington is 10-15 minutes away."
