What Locals Say about Fort Hamilton

Review Highlights

Fort Hamilton pulses with seaside calm, easy walks, and quick links to NYC from Brooklyn’s edge. People love the safe, walkable vibe, parks and waterfront paths, diverse eateries, and decent R train. Parking is tough, rents high, some litter and pet waste, and commutes can be slow with occasional crime.

"Halloween there is usually the Halloween walk at Owl's Head Park. There are also usually community events such as outdoor music hosted by the borough president. We have a few parades (Norwegian Day, Ragamuffin, 5th Avenue Fair). In nearby Dyker/Bensonhursr there are Christmas Houses all lit up and the 18th Avenue Feast. "

"Shore road has a lot of coop buildings which makes parking very difficult but location is great for outdoor walks along the parks nearby. Also close to multiple modes of transportations (train, bus, highway). Restaurants and bars are also abundant along 3rd, 4th and 5th ave which is a 10 min walk."

"Most of the area isn’t safe. There many incidents on 86th Street. I listen to Citizen it's an app that reports what happens in the area. FT. Hamilton isn't all that safe."
  • Jdarby
"Lots of parks and playgrounds, sidewalks for strollers and places for kids to play. A very quiet and safe neighborhood even if it’s not as convenient as more central locations in Brooklyn. Worth considering if you have children, you will get more space and amenities for your money if you can handle the extra 20 mins on the subway "
  • Spirako87
"dont let your kids play too late at night, theres been a string of crime lately during the evening hours."
  • Lurricodoe
"Diverse group of people with lots of children and noise. Hard to find parking close to your house. Good restaurants within walking distance but no major supermarket close by. Most people are friendly "
