"The town has the best schools in the region. Many families with kids move here just for better education. The going rents are as high as the mortgage."
  • Crystal
"I moved here from NYC & to be honest I hated it at first, there was such a big culture shock between the extremely social life of the city to suburbia. I was shy so I expected my neighbors to introduce themselves. Which never happened. Once my kids started school I fell in love with the town! Not just because of the great schools but also for the area parks, recreation, community center, town pool, town summer camp, sports, arts/crafts, adult classes, free swim lessons, the quiet streets my kids ride their bikes on & I walk my baby in her stroller everyday. The shade trees are beautiful, in the spring there are many flowered trees, in the fall the trees light up in a beautiful collage of yellows, bright reds & oranges. This is definitely a family town, I didn't Appreciate living here until I had my own family. Now the street fairs, carnivals, 4th of July celebration (like a half carnival w/pony rides, water rides, hot dogs, cotton candy etc) I love the little shops here, like Hudson drug where I get much more personal service than I ever got at CVS, NVE bank, sweet spot which makes the best cupcakes anywhere & even has kids party nights with a DJ & all! Or go In on a Friday for some "grown up" cupcakes that are spiked! There is story hour & summer reading program at the library as well as an art gallery for local artists... Amateur or professional. Photography by Crystal Lee is definitely the best boutique photo studio in the area doing engagement, maternity, boudoir (think a cross between Victoria's secret & 1940's pin up photography) kids, babies & commercial Photography. I love living here now, if suburbia isn't for u, chances are u will hate it. If u want the multitude of town activities & services for socialization & fun & like the quiet, are willing to introduce urself to ur neighbors then u will either like it or love it. Like any town it depends what ur looking for. The schools are #1 in bergen County (non magnet, non charter, public schools) #4 in NJ."

"Cresskill is very much for families with kids who want a good school system. That's it. If you're looking to make new friends or have chats with neighbors - forget it. It's a very self-involved, keep to oneself, kind of town. The public transportation to Manhattan is poor, so I drive. In fact, you pretty much have to drive everywhere. The taxes are astronomical but are being reassessed in 2012. There is a very large Korean population who rent/buy, stay for a few years, and then turn their homes over to other Korean immigrants. They are only here for the school systems and the proximity to New York City. Other than that, they keep to themselves. There are very little community or environmental concerns in Cresskill, and the zoning board must look the other way for 99% of the projects that are approved. They're building a very tall, very unsightly, Capital One Bank downtown where a very cute Log Cabin Auto Shop/Gas Station stood for years. This structure looms over the poor folks who live in a house next door. Also, I've been a victim of the McMansion craze in this area. Next to my small home and small lot, on the same sized lot right next to me, a tremendous - and I mean TREMENDOUS - McMansion was built. The "Builders" were unprofessional, rude, and caused us a lot of grief. They had generators running on Thanksgiving all day. ON THANKSGIVING! And it was difficult to get the police to do much. I call this finished product "The Rising Spaceship," because it blocks the sky, the sun and pretty much everything to the South of me (we have constant shade and my perennial border died after it was built). This neighborhood LOVES leaf blowers and cutting down trees. Again, if you're looking for eco-friendly, quiet, a sense of Community, nice neighbors, and good public transportation, spend your hard earned money in another town in Bergen County. The only thing I'll say for it is that it's pretty safe although a drug manufacturer/dealer did live my block. He's gone now."
