The school is not a good school anymore. Principal Tention is not a good principal. She does not look out for the safety and well-being of students. She doesn't meet the proper goals of what a principal should be. Children have been physically attacked bullied. She does nothing she doesn't have meetings to mediate the situation. She doesn't even call the parents, it's unacceptable. Some of the teachers are good. The special ed teachers are good but they need more education on dealing with children with special needs. The school needs to be revamped.

I am deeply disappointed with my experience at PS 279. The communication from the school is consistently poor, leaving parents struggling to stay informed about their children's progress and school events. Additionally, the school seems to lack teachers who possess both the experience and patience necessary to effectively engage and educate our students.One of the most concerning issues is the inadequate support for students with disabilities. These students do not receive the assistance they require to thrive academically and socially. This neglect is detrimental not only to the individual students but also affects the overall learning environment.Furthermore, the notion of family engagement at PS 279 feels disingenuous. The school promotes the idea of involving families, but in practice, it often comes off as just a facade, with minimal opportunities for meaningful interaction or involvement.Overall, I believe that significant improvements are needed at PS 279 in order to provide a better educational experience for all students and to foster genuine engagement with families.Safety and learning are ok here, but everything elese they need to do better.I am not even going to wait for the end of the school year to pull my children out.

As a parent of straight-A, honor roll students, my experience with the leadership at PS/IS 66 was an absolute nightmare of administrative incompetence, dishonesty, and safety failures.This is a dangerous, toxic, and deeply devious environment for children. The moment a parent advocates for their child, the administration responds with hostility and bureaucratic retaliation against the student.The principal and the entire leadership team actively manipulated official school safety records in the Online Occurrence Reporting System (OORS) database to protect institutional metrics at the expense of student safety. When a 6 grader made explicit weapon against my children, including a terrifying threat directed at my 3rd grader , the school administration intentionally scrubbed the threats from the official OORS database. Instead of addressing the safety crisis, they split the single event into separate reports to sanitize the files, leaving fabricated entries to frame the victim as the aggressor. This situation required formal escalations to citywide oversight agencies, filings under Chancellor's Regulation A-820, and an active complaint with the U.S. Department of Education Student Privacy Policy Office (SPPO) regarding data integrity. Even when presented with written proof of factual contradictions in their own statements, the school and district leadership refused to correct official safety logs and denied mandatory appeal procedures.Students are targeted by staff who prioritize sanitizing safety reporting over protecting children. I have removed my children from this school, and I urge all prospective parents to avoid this school at all costs!
