NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf you're reading reviews like I once did, trying to decide whether this is the right school for your child, I hope you'll read this one all the way through. Our family enrolled all three of our children at Reverend George A. Brown because we believed in the school's mission and wanted them to grow in an environment that valued both academics and kindness. We truly hoped this would be their school through graduation. There were teachers who genuinely cared about our children, and we will always be grateful for them. Unfortunately, our overall experience told a very different story. The biggest lesson we learned is that a school's culture isn't measured by what it says in its brochures or on its website. It's measured by how children are treated when they struggle, how parents are treated when they raise concerns, and whether school leadership is willing to listen instead of becoming defensive.Over the years, we repeatedly felt our concerns were minimized rather than addressed. We watched our children leave school questioning themselves because of comments made by adults they trusted. As a parent, there is nothing more heartbreaking than hearing your child ask, "Is something wrong with me?" after a day at school. Our younger son experienced emotional struggles that had been documented across multiple schools, yet we often felt there was more focus on correcting behaviors than understanding what was causing them. Our older son is a kind, respectful child who doesn't challenge authority, yet he, too, experienced interactions with staff that left him embarrassed and doubting himself. The school also went a year and a half without a guidance counselor. At a time when student mental health is more important than ever, that was deeply concerning to us.Leaving wasn't the result of one bad day or one disagreement. It was the result of years of experiences that slowly eroded our trust. We didn't leave because we wanted to. We left because we no longer believed this was the environment our children needed. If I could give one piece of advice to prospective families, it would be this: ask questions that go beyond academics. Ask how concerns are handled. Ask how children who think, learn, or react differently are supported. Ask how staff are held accountable when parents raise concerns. The answers to those questions matter far more than any ranking. If I had known then what I know now, I would have made a different decision for my family.Parent Review1mo ago24 Reviews - Northern Hill Academy
