"I live in St. Augustine. Vilano is waiting to happen and if the area could keep it's retro vibe and add a couple more nightlife venues it would attract people who really want that " Florida of days gone by" feeling. Great beaches and easy access to the historic city, this is what visitors are looking for. Anastasia Island makes it work because there's great places to dine and there's a pier, too, but it's lacking that character many people want to "discover" and it's waiting at Vilano. Promote the surfing, get a surf rental "shack" by the beach, do up the T shirts, vacationers eat them up! I don't recall seeing an "I love Vilano Beach" T shirt on anyone strolling along St. George St. There's new construction at the beach, and people with money will spend money on a good time, showing off to friends and family what a unique spot Vilano is. Get a pizza place like Mellow Mushroom going, locals take their people there. Why is it taking so long to get a waterfront restaurant established? A little motivation goes a long way and there's a whole lot of people missing Fiddler's Green. And Retro is the key. The Good Old Days. It's right there."
