"UMED district is a quiet neighborhood with several professionals living in the area as it’s close to UA and Providence. It’s close to trails. Neighbors are great and it’s pet friendly. "

"There’s lots of trails in the area to go on runs/walks that connect to some parks. All the dogs that are in the area do seem friendly and like other dogs and children."

"20 minute bike ride on a trail, rain or shine, winter or summer, crossing one busy road, no lights. "

"It’s within walking distance of the dog park. The sidewalks and trails are well maintained. A majority of the houses have fenced yards."

"This neighborhood is prone to high crime due to large number of low income apartments and rentals nearby as well as a homeless shelter. Large numbers of homeless inebriates roam the area."

"I live near the hospital and traffic can be rough in the morning especially because Tudor is a very busy road but one that is most convenient for our daily commute. Other than that, I love this area so much. It’s close to APU and UAA and my work ANMC. People are friendly. The crime is low here."

"great trail access, a dog park, and a location that keeps you less than 5 mins away from universities and medical campuses, under 10 mins to midtown shopping, and about 12 mins to downtown. great location! plus we're home to East High, the most diverse high school in the country!"

"This neighborhood is 15-20 minutes in any direction from the wilds of South Central Alaska, or in Downtown Anchorage. Yet grocery stores, gas stations, schools and restaurants are within 5-8 miles. There are 2 major hospitals within walking distance for great jobs. City bus service in any direction is one block away."

"It seems to be a dog friendly area. I would recommend living here if you want to live close to the university and own a dog."

"The University area isn’t very dog friendly. Affordable homes that are nice don’t allow pets, but the ones that do allow pets aren’t as nice. Overall, great management but pet owners beware"

"I live in the area and it is close to restaurants, universities and hospitals. The neighborhood is safe with active police officers living in the area. The drive to midtown is about 7 minutes and 10 to downtown. Close to trails for walking and bike rides."

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have two children at Anchorage Waldorf School and love it. Rather than rushing children through rote memorization and standardized testing, the Waldorf teachers cultivate deep curiosity, imagination, and a genuine love of learning. The arts-integrated curriculum is woven into every subject. Whether it's watercolor painting, handwork, music, or drawing as a way to process a math concept, the arts are a living thread through the entire school day. Small class sizes mean that teachers genuinely know each student. The physical education program is unlike anything we've seen elsewhere. Students get to ski, practice archery, and experience a range of outdoor activities that build confidence, coordination, and a deep connection to Alaska's natural environment. There's a real sense of partnership between families and teachers. You feel like a collaborator in your child's education, not just an observer. We're so grateful to be part of this community.Parent Review1mo ago13 Reviews - Starbright Early Learning Center

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe've brought our 2 kids to Starbright for a couple of years now from ages 2 through 5. Do not let the neighborhood mislead you.. this place is excellent. Experienced teachers that build relationships with your kids and as parent I get a ton out of chatting with teachers at pick-up. Not ONCE have we had a weird/bad experience. There are many folks here that have been a very positive/constructive influence for our kids over the years and I wouldn't limit the 5 stars to one particular classroom or teacher. Starbright also strives to stay open even when ASD closes for remote learning days which is super helpful with little ones. We are extremely happy that we decided to enroll our eldest in Missy's kindergarten class here. She is one of those rare teachers folks use in those password hints "what was name of your favorite teacher in your whole life?" Also Starbright is recently under new ownership and after experiencing both the old and the new, I can say they haven't lost a beat. The new owner/director (also) Missy is awesome. Bring your kids to Starbright and upgrade your life.Parent Review2y ago1 Reviews - Alaska State School For The Deaf & Hard Of Hearing
