About this House

Two-Bedroom Cottage with Shared Yard in Northwest Berkeley / Ocean View Neighborhood - Available January 2026

Charming 2BR/1BA two-story cottage available for rent in January 2026, featuring a private patio and access to a shared hot tub. Nestled at the back of a quiet residential property, the cottage gets a lot of natural light and has an updated kitchen and bathroom, as well as beautiful hardwood floors throughout. The cottage shares a generous lot with a separate Victorian, with both homes separated by a well-loved garden. The cottage comes with free, shared on-site laundry.

The property is on a quiet residential tree-lined block in the Ocean View neighborhood and is a short walk to James Kenney Park, North Berkeley BART (.8 miles), and shopping and dining on 4th St. (.2 miles). The location is also near UC Berkeley (1.7 miles), and just minutes away from Berkeley Bowl West, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and the I-580 University Ave entrance. Additionally, the property is just blocks away from the San Pablo and 6th Street AC Transit stop (approximately 20 minutes to San Francisco, Salesforce Transit Center on Line G). There's ample street parking.

The street-facing Victorian is owner occupied by a family with a large dog (75 lbs). We're looking for folks who are considerate with shared spaces (garden, laundry, hot tub), comfortable with a rescue dog, and open to the occasional get together, like a meal or garden hang out.

If this sounds like a good fit for you, please reach out and tell us more about yourself! We'd love to hear:

1. A bit about who you are.
2. What attracted you to the cottage, and what are you hoping for in your next living situation?
3. How do you like to relax, socialize, and spend your free time?

Thanks!

Owners pay for water and trash. You will pay your home's PG&E as well as the fiber internet from Sonic. $3,900 refundable deposit required with first month's rent. Please note the house is not furnished. No smoking is permitted on the property. There's ample street parking.

"they would love to take their pets to the park in the area. they may not like the parking availability at certain times throughout the day. "
  • Trulia User
"There are a lot of dog walkers around during the day time, but the street lighting isn’t consistent. Also, nearby parks do not feel very safe before sunrise or after sunset. There are frequent assaults reported in the area. I make a point to only walk my dog during the day and without headphones in, so that I can be aware of my surroundings. "
  • Trulia User
"The neighbors in general are great, the gardens - well kept, there are tons of stores and things to do. "
  • Hector R.

"I've lived in this neighborhood for thirty years and I love it. We are very close friends with our immediate neighbors and friends with many others. We enjoy the walks, restaurants, cafes, the library and grocery stores—all in easy walking distance. Public transportation is easily available, a few minutes walk. This is a great neighborhood to have a dog and to raise children."
  • Sue H.
"The Bart is a short walk which makes getting around convenient- particularly to the Cal Campus from the Downtown Berkeley BART station."
  • Sue H.
"Typical town stuff- fall festival, harvest festival, farmers markets are nice and most things are walkable. Typical problems with any urban area."
  • slwhite_510
"I have lived in the area for over 10 years. There are so many restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, grocery stores, etc within walking distance or within a five minute drive. North Berkeley Bart is within a 7 minute walk; SF express bus lines on Gilman and San Pablo. Amtrak (in Emeryville) is within a 7-10 min drive. The area is bike friendly. It’s single and family area. Lots to do!"
  • Shane H.
"This neighborhood keeps getting better! Phillz coffee, Acme Bread, 4th Street Shopping, etc. We love starting our family here."
  • kimsyer
"I have lived in this neighborhood for close to three years now. I spend a lot of time on the street walking my dog and walking with my child and feel very much 'at home' here. I've met lovely people and feel the location is one of the best in Berkeley. Others in the area feel the same way. "
  • jrout1
"Having lived at different locations in Berkeley for the past 15 years, currently in North West Berkeley, this neighborhood is one of the nicer places in town. A stone-throw from the freeway, a short walk to Bart, quiet, friendly neighbors."
