"Lovely, quiet and beautiful place to call home. Plenty to do downtown, close to shopping and basic essentials. Lots of walking areas and very safe for being a single woman. I can safely walk at anytime of the day. "
  • Jeni Corso
"People are friendly. Some areas are hilly but for the most part you can find a nice area to stroll with your dog."
  • Trulia User
"Downtown is walkable from most parts of Lafayette and it’s well connected to other parts of the bay via BART"
  • Sjdole
"I used to live at the coralee house in Lafayette and loved it. It was cool year round with all the trees. It was like living inside Muir Woods. "
  • Saul Padilla
"It is a great place for living, very good schools and delicious restaurants located in downtown. We are so happy living here"
  • Trulia User
"Perfect for dog owners! The streets are beautiful, full of trees, and roses, landscaping and rolling hills!"
  • Trulia User
"lots of dogs are here so if you don’t want to say hi constantly don’t come here but otherwise there are dogs everywhere"
  • Rebecca R.
"Halloween is a big deal; lots of kids around riding bikes throughout the year; elementary school and high school both nearby; neighbors are friendly"
  • Gavinjdaniels
"Safe neighborhood with a casual swim club and plenty of local trail access. Highway is 4 miles away but traffic isn’t an issue unless you’re driving into Burton valley for school drop off."
  • Alicia B.
"Is a nice safe neighborhood with well maintained gardens and parks for the most part people are friendly and welcoming. Public transportation is good and reliable "
  • Muzyhull
"Great neighborhood for raising a family! Very little traffic. Kids can ride their bikes and feel safe. The one drawback of living in our area is there are no sidewalks or street lights. We’re in the unincorporated area of Lafayette."
  • Geraldine F. M.
"Feels like a holiday location in the mountains yet close for corporate life in the city. Best area for high schoolers. "
  • "My neighbourhood has awful access to public transport. I don’t have a car at the moment. If I want to go into town it’s an hour & 20min walk both ways. It keeps me fit, I guess. We just moved here from Chicago, so it’s a bit of a culture shock. I survived 8 years there with no car. 3 of those years were with kids. The first week we were here, I thought I’d take the kids into SF to see their dads new workplace. I walked for 40mins uphill, pushing a stroller with my 3.5yo and carrying my 1year old on my back so we could catch a bus from St Mary’s College (that runs very not very often) to Orinda BART into SF. Not an experience I would repeat. We probably should have just walked into Lafayette and got the BART from there I need to get my UK licence changed to a CA one, so I can get on the insurance to drive my husbands car"
  • "The community center on St Mary’s Road is brilliant. It had a tot drop, no registration required preschool, a playground, trails, loads of different keep fit classes and other community events"
  • Ranjitha R.
"Art and wine festivals that happen around Lafayette. Farmers market, hikes charity events and lot more!"
  • Lucas L.
"My neighborhood has great access to public transportation and the commute to downtown is 1 minute. I'm"
  • Derek D.
"When the power transformers explode, a line comes down, a neighbor has an accident, the tree cutting service smashes into the fire hydrant and floods my garage with water, a cyclist gets hit by a car and the kids run around at halloween, everyone comes together pretty quickly and there’s always people around during the day to help. Seriously good people but mother nature and other factors definitely keep it exciting."
  • Emimae05
"I moved here six years ago, and have felt welcome every second. We have become very close with a few of our neighbors and say hello to them often. "
  • Monumentmen
"It was the first place I lived when I moved to CA, 16 years ago. I was in my mid 20s & single, so I moved to SF as soon as I could but as soon as I got married & had a kid, I wanted to come back. It’s a great place for kids!"
  • emimae
"Every Halloween people ‘boo’ each other, which is just doorbell ditching but leaving a sign that says “you’ve been booed” and a box full of Halloween goodies"
  • Aimee W.
"Beautiful tree lined family neighborhood with great schools and an easy commute to SF. Friendly people, great outdoor spaces and amazing place to raise kids."
  • Monumentmen
"I walk to work at a local coffee shop. I drive to school in Berkeley. The commute is fairly easy save for returning to town on the 24 at rush hour. "
  • Sgatti28
"Streets downtown can get jammed around school time. people are very polite drivers on average. Downtown has too many parking meters. "
  • Tjspot10
"I don’t commute, but my husband commutes to SF using BART. His commute including driving to BART varies between 50 minutes on a good day and 90 minutes on a really bad day."
  • Cliney
"Big yards here, good for raising Cujo right!. Lots of great trails and back streets to walk poochie on. People are tolerant of dogs. Not too many pit bulls around though."
  • Deborah L Mcelwaine
"I have lived in this area all my life and ... and love everything about it. I graduated from Acalanes High School and attended St Marys ... My family has been an active part of the the community for over 60 years ... • Michael.e.hansen
"Great neighbors; incredible schools; small town feel with easy access to the City via BART. There are restaurants and shops in the town center and Walnut Creek is very near for everything you need in a big town."
  • Emay5
"family suburb with excellent schools, easy BART to the city, quick access to freeway, upscale shops "
  • Lauren H. T.
"Very easy freeway and bart access via Deer Hill Road. Pleasant Hill road can back up but we don’t have to go too far down so it never takes more than 5-10 minutes in traffic. "
  • Alvin B.
"wine tasting festival and other downtown street events. All year long. Quiet as most things are done and over around midnight"
  • Athompson0776
"It’s quaint and cute. Very upbeat, lots of good places to eat, and shop. Talent show sing a long in the park. "
  • Cliney
"Quiet and peaceful at night, but too many yuppies. Mostly retirees and young families moving in with lots of $$$."
  • Lissettsamaniego
"Best neighbors one could hope for: We look out for one another, we are ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed, we share the bounty from our fruit trees, we celebrate holidays together-- Halloween pumpkin carving contests and Christmas caroling."
  • Tavipatel
"Close to the Lafayette reservoir, walking distance to BART and downtown and still charming, friendly and quiet."
  • Mike b.
"Neighborhood is generally quiet and most neighbors maintain their property. Love the rural feels while being close to urban areas."
