1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageCHS is a great school. I have a totally different background and was worried about bullies but I have been received with love and kindness. Excellence is celebrated regardless of where you come from. Teachers interact with us like their own children. I am a 9th grader and can say I absolutely enjoy school. My teachers are already discussing college courses with me.Future Aeronautical Engineer,Oluwadamilare.Student Review9y ago6 Reviews - East Side High School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI just was awarded section 8. I was so excited. I wanted to move out of Newark. Then I received a letter from Malcolm Shabazz stating that my son was one of 6 students in Newark district schools that was awarded a scholarship to Lincoln Tech. All expenses paid. Malcolm Shabazz also informed us that not only will he be graduating next year with honors from there but also Lincoln Tech. They informed us upon graduating in would receive an additional scholarship for 85,000, to further his education. My son was and is so excited. So as for me moving out of Newark, not happening now. My son's dreams have to come first. Thank you Malcolm Shabazz for caring so much about my child and his future!Parent Review2y ago4 Reviews - Weequahic High School

"The parking is terrible most of the time you can't find a parking space, and the summer it's so loud with people always blasting their music at night, it's just to active."

"sidewalks are small with a lot of fences and gates. a lot of other dogs that are aggressive. parks are far from here not in walking distance with a lot of cemeteries in the area"

"Great . I’m close to four bus lines and they take me to other forms of transportation. Just safety issues. I’m weary of standing at the bus lines because of the crime rate. My form of transportation is Uber or family members "

"This neighborhood is bad, lots of drug dealers selling drugs, shooting, fighting all times of day in night! It was a nightmare living there! They be outside till something in the morning playing loud music! You call the cops they leave then come back when the police leave! It’s a bad area period not for kids to play outside it’s not safe And they make it so dirty in front of your house "

"No area for dogs to play freely like a dog park. Most let their dogs defecate near trees, behind abandon homes and in front of residents houses without picking up their dogs mess."

"I reside in an up and coming neighborhood. There are new construction projects. There is public transportation allowing ease to get around. You can get to NYC easily. There are shops, stores, grocery stores, and close to a hospital. "

"THE GENTRIFICATION OF WORKING CLASS FAMILIES SHARING THE SAME GOALS. AFRICANS CARRIBEANS HISPANICS AND AFRICAN AMERICANS ARE ALIKE. THERE'S A A CHURCH IN MY BLOCK THAT SERVICES COMMUNITIES NEAR AND FAR WITH THEIR RELIGIOUS PANTRY AND OTHER SERVICES. THERE ARE COLONIAL STYLE AND TOWNHOUSES. BUS AND SHOPPING ARE CLOSE TO TRANSPORTATION. FASTFOOD RESTAURANTS ARE NEARBY EITHER YOU CAN GO OR STAY.WHAT I REALLY LOVE ABOUT IT IS MY RESPECT FOR A COUPLE OF ELDERLY NEIGHBORS TELLING ME THE HISTORY OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE CHANGES THROUGHOUT THE YEARS. THERE'S A CHARTER SCHOOL THAT'S ONE BLOCK AWAY AS WELL AS A HOSPITAL 2 BLOCKS AWAY. SO THAT WHAT MAKES MY NEIGHBOR UNIQUE. IT OPENS THE DOOR FOR THE NEXT GENERATION THAT I MUST BE PREPARED FOR."

"I live in the neighborhood, moved here from NY due to rent being really high & NJ isn’t much of a difference. A lot of abandoned houses, broken sidewalks & riddled streets. "
