What Locals Say about Outer Mission

  • Trulia User
"If you live near mission street you may run into homelessness. There’s lots of small businesses that can benefit from your patronage."
  • Monique S.
"People are always out walking their dogs, it’s a great neighborhood. People stop and say hi, dogs are friendly. Even got a few outdoor libraries in my neighborhood"
  • Ejojola
"The people I’ve met in this neighborhood have lived here for over 10 years...there’s a lot of church goers with mixed backgrounds."
  • David D.
"There are a lot of dogs in our neighborhood. People walk there dogs everyday. Some on leashes some not."
  • Ejojola
"Not bad.... Muni is always available not far from BART. All public transportation is walking distance."
  • Jonathan F.
"Cayuga Park, Alice Chalmers, and other hills around here make it one of the most diverse places to walk your dog. Every dog is always on a leash, and parks are super dog friendly."
  • Annie Y.
"This area has the best weather. It's close to the farmers' market and has lots of good restaurants. There are lots of parks in Outer Mission including Balboa Park. On sunny days, I love to sit on a bench and watch the games. There are also lots of programs at the senior center."
  • Jonathan F.
"The Outer Mission is a working class community. It is a melting pot of different cultures. Most of the people living in the Outer Mission are native San Franciscans. It is one of the last areas in San Francisco where you'll still see lots of native locals. Every place in the Outer Mission is no frills—many 'mom and pop' shops serve the community well. It is hard to find parking, and lots of people rent out in-law apartments in parts of the neighborhood."
  • Jonathan F.
"Easily accessible by Balboa BART. The 14 Muni line runs a block away, and freeways and main roads like Mission, Alemany, and Bayshore Blvd. border the Outer Mission."
  • Annie Y.
"The freeways are close by. Lots of Muni buses to choose from. It's close to a BART station, too."
  • Jonathan F.
"There are three schools here in the Outer Mission: George Washington Elementary, Balboa High School, and we're walking distance from City College of San Francisco."
  • Jonathan S.
"The Outer Mission is part of San Francisco but still affordable. It's also up and coming."
  • Jonathan S.
"The commute can be pretty rough. It's not near a BART station or a Caltrain station so you need to take a bus, which can be sketchy."
  • Jonathan S.
"It is not a safe neighborhood. I would not raise kids there."
  • Tracy T.
"There are dog-friendly parks close by and a lot of restaurants allow dog owners to eat there outside with their dogs. What we don't like is that there are some irresponsible owners who do not clean up after their dogs."
  • Brian F.
"It's a very dog-friendly neighborhood with lots of parks where your dogs can run and play."
  • Tracy T.
"Where I live is close to the freeway, so it is quick to go south and north. If I want to go downtown, I take BART."
  • Brian F.
"It's a great community with good schools, sports teams, and shopping areas."
  • "Close to FWY access, BART, MUNI & conveniences."
