Read what parents are saying about Santa Fe Montessori School***NOTE*** Santa Fe Montessori will cease to exist after Summer 2015. The Santa Fe Montessori owners have sold the school to a Montessori chain called LePort Schools. The LePort staff just had their "open house" on Saturday (April 18, 2015) to introduce the new faculty and administration which will be running things when the school opens as a LePort School in Fall 2015. So far, so good. It will still be Montessori curriculum, plus LePort offers a "Spanish Immersion" program. I've enrolled my son, and am looking forward to seeing how the new owners & staff run things.
Posted by a parent on 4/20/2015I cannot say enough good things about SFMS! My son has attended both the Toddler Program and Children's House. From the teachers to the administration, I find the school's culture to be consistently professional, empathetic, and highly qualified. Teachers and staff are passionate about children thriving - both academically and socially. After touring many area schools, it seemed obvious to both my husband and I that SFMS had a "vibe" that was superior to all the other choices we vetted. Now, after our son has attended SFMS for 2 years, we are so happy with our choice. We love it here.

Santa Fe Montessori School is a unique gem of a school successfully supporting and encouraging children s growth and development in coastal North County continuously for the past 43 years. Toddler, preschool, kindergarten and elementary programs are offered for children ages 18 months to 12 years. All of the teachers are Montessori trained and certified, enthusiastically embracing this unique educational method. The school climate is in sync with the Montessori philosophy of caring, nurturing, respectful and educationally stimulating interactions. The teachers will tell you that they are happy to come to work because the administration is always available to help and support them whenever they need it. Come for a tour anytime, watch the children at "work", talk to the Head of School and the teachers and decide for yourself if this school is right for your child and your family. Many hundreds of parents over the past 43 years have been thrilled to have discovered us!
Posted by a principal on 4/8/2014In a word wonderful! Notice the word is not perfect and my view is that nothing is perfect. As a parent I bring years of history, both knowingly and unknowingly to my kids place of education. My kids are learning and understanding academically and personally because of the style of Montessori and the environment in which it is delivered. This includes the teachers and peers plenty of room for improvement but plenty of room for praise. Thank you Santa Fe Montessori for taking the daily challenge of working with us crazy parents and our kids who are trying to figure out life while learning. Note: Fellow parents, please use your anonymity with wisdom and thoughtfulness before making public comments.
Posted by a parent on 2/27/2014My daughter has attended SFMS for the past year and I plan to send my son next year, when he is of age. My daughter has blossomed as a person in her time in the toddler program. The quality of the teachers and their style of intuitive guidance has really impressed me. Her communication, sense of independence, and practical life skills are amazing for a toddler. I get complements on her abilities all the time from family and friends. The school seems to maintain a strong respect for core Montessori teachings/materials and has fabulous indoor/outdoor spaces for the children to explore. I have only wonderful things to say about the school and highly recommend it to other parents looking for a school community focused on respectful, practical, creative thought and actions.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHorizon Prep has blessed us abundantly in every aspect of our two kids' lives! Attending the high school now, both of our children began at HP in their 8th grade years. While the closing of public schools during covid led us to private school, now my only regret is not moving to Horizon Prep earlier in their school careers. The immediate academic rigor they experieced over public school was enhanced by thoughtful and engaging teachers. Every teacher offers office hours to either clarify or expand on what my kids are learning. In addition, if my child needs prayer or a caring adult to talk with, the teachers have usually noticed and already asked if something is on their minds. The parental involvement is incredible to me as the high school students invite and enjoy their parents participating in their school lives. The no cut athletics are ministered by incredibly talented coaches and volunteers and give the kids opportunities to grow with teams in competitive but loving and supportive groups. My talkative child has learned to lead discussions with focused and concise information. My quiet child has developed into a public speaker who confidently participates after years of quietly hiding among the crowd in the public school classrooms of 36 students. Horizon Prep is small but boisterous. The smaller numbers require students to really be involved in their learning and that ownership has dramatically effected my kids' personal effort, responsibilty, and care in their education. As a new parent, my prayer was to raise well-rounded, servant leaders who have the decision making skills and grit necessary to walk their path as adults. I will forever be grateful for the teachers, staff, and community of Horizon Prep who have played such a vital role in their journeys thus far.Parent Review5mo ago - Encinitas Country Day School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son had a wonderful K year here. The small class size allows for truly personalized learning, as well as great social emotional development support. I appreciate that I know he is learning from 2 trained teachers as opposed to parent volunteers public schools often depend on to supplement the 1 classroom teachers. In addition to typical curriculum, the kids have daily specialists including art, music, Spanish, PE, library, gardening and drama. They have monthly field trips and a very active school community with tons of opportunities for parent/family involvement. And there is a big focus as well on social emotional learning. I have not seen any issues with bullying, problems with disruptions in the class, etc. Recently we ran into a few 4th graders that are the K's reading buddy class and the "big kids" were so sweet talking to and playing with my son and his friends. It really epitomizes what we have seen - it is just a great student body and small enough it really feels like a community. I have seen comments about the administration being bad but that hasn't been my experience. I have always gotten responses to any email or call and they do a good job communicating. And I love that the teachers make themselves available for parents to reach out directly. The principal even stands outside every morning greeting all the students by name!Parent Review1y ago - Santa Fe Christian Schools

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI was a student at SFC from pre-school (when there was a pre-school) to graduating highschool, and while attending the school I was encouraged to take classes for things I wanted to learn about alongside requirements for graduation. I just with they had a better option for fulfilling PE requirements for students who don't participate in sports, like myself, than independent PE or a strength and conditioning class aimed at helping football players, such as an actual class to let you get the PE credits you need to graduate. They also have pretty much no special needs help other than extra time for tests and exams, sitting in the front of class when needed, and ADA required infrastructure. The school definitely needs better help for neurodivergent students such as myself when I was a student. They also need to have a better way of handling mental health. I delt with pretty bad depression and anxiety that I ended up needing to be medicated for while I was there as a student, and if they had some form of counseling for mental health, I wasn't made aware of it.Parent Review1y ago - St. James Academy
