St. James Academy is a fantastic school that educates the whole child!
Posted by a principal on 10/13/2020Our kids have attended St. James Academy (SJA) for the past 2 years. SJA is not just a “school” it much more than that. It is a caring and nurturing student-focused educational facility with a strong sense of community. It is our extended family! Everyone has been welcoming and inviting, the teacher/student ratio is low, so every child gets personal attention to help them thrive with individual needs. The teachers and other SJA families care deeply about the kids. SJA has helped our kids grow both spiritually, academically, emotionally, physically and socially. They really educate the whole child. We have loved the families we have met through SJA. Not only are our children obtaining a great education, but they are learning to be good people with great morals and values in a safe and loving environment. It is beautiful to see the older grades connecting with the younger ones. During lunch time they play together, and the older kids sit with the younger ones during Friday mass. The students even have “school families” where kids throughout all different grade levels come together monthly to do activities. It creates a strong relationship and friendship between all the children on campus – the older kids help teach the little ones.SJA has been the best investment in our children’s future. We love it here and would highly recommend it to any family.
Posted by a parent on 10/16/2019It is an amazing school! I am constantly in awe of how happy we have been with every teacher. It is a warm, supportive environment and it is reflected in the way the kids present themselves in the world.
Posted by a parent on 10/3/2019We love SJA!! We feel beyond blessed to be apart of this community. It is truly an extension of our little family to one big family. The care and guidance of the leadership, the incredible teachers and staff are truly one of a kind. Our children couldn’t be in a better environment with faith formation occurring throughout the day and woven into the challenging and well rounded curriculum, as well as the PE/sports activities, the beautiful music program, hands on gardening and responsible/kindness training. We have made wonderful friendships with the other families and look forward to the years to come. Thank you SJA!
Posted by a parent on 10/3/2019Our family has been here 15 years. We’ve seen the ups and downs, like most schools but what sets St James Academy apart is that they teach for a greater purpose. All students are encouraged to use their skills and gifts to go out and make a difference in the world. In a culture where high academic and athletic competitiveness is valued, if these skills are not ultimately used for the greater good, it doesn’t really matter. St James fosters an environment where kids are taught to make a difference. By the way, if you are concerned about academic excellence in a smaller environment like St James, my two older kids are thriving at Santa Clara University and Boston College

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son had a wonderful K year here. The small class size allows for truly personalized learning, as well as great social emotional development support. I appreciate that I know he is learning from 2 trained teachers as opposed to parent volunteers public schools often depend on to supplement the 1 classroom teachers. In addition to typical curriculum, the kids have daily specialists including art, music, Spanish, PE, library, gardening and drama. They have monthly field trips and a very active school community with tons of opportunities for parent/family involvement. And there is a big focus as well on social emotional learning. I have not seen any issues with bullying, problems with disruptions in the class, etc. Recently we ran into a few 4th graders that are the K's reading buddy class and the "big kids" were so sweet talking to and playing with my son and his friends. It really epitomizes what we have seen - it is just a great student body and small enough it really feels like a community. I have seen comments about the administration being bad but that hasn't been my experience. I have always gotten responses to any email or call and they do a good job communicating. And I love that the teachers make themselves available for parents to reach out directly. The principal even stands outside every morning greeting all the students by name!Parent Review1y ago - Santa Fe Montessori School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI was a student at SFC from pre-school (when there was a pre-school) to graduating highschool, and while attending the school I was encouraged to take classes for things I wanted to learn about alongside requirements for graduation. I just with they had a better option for fulfilling PE requirements for students who don't participate in sports, like myself, than independent PE or a strength and conditioning class aimed at helping football players, such as an actual class to let you get the PE credits you need to graduate. They also have pretty much no special needs help other than extra time for tests and exams, sitting in the front of class when needed, and ADA required infrastructure. The school definitely needs better help for neurodivergent students such as myself when I was a student. They also need to have a better way of handling mental health. I delt with pretty bad depression and anxiety that I ended up needing to be medicated for while I was there as a student, and if they had some form of counseling for mental health, I wasn't made aware of it.Parent Review1y ago - Leport School
