"I think dog owners would like to see a dog park around the lake. They probably would like to have a place so there dogs can run down to the lake and it’s fenced off from the people and kids."

"Aside from Lake Merritt it's a pretty urban place. not necessarily a spot with a ton of open space for animals. "

"They would like the long hilly blocks in the neighborhood and access to parks trails and the lake trails. Also the pet stores and pet clinic."

"Close to FairyLand. Never see kids without parents in this community. These buildings are old so it’s a challenge for noise pollution. Also is close to a park on grand. "

"nice neighborhood. Poor on street parking options, gentrification galore makes it not as cool as it used to be. Big property management companies moving out long term residents making it SF East."

"The 19th Street BART station is a 20-minute walk from my place, and from there it's just a 15-minute ride into the city. Lots of trains pass through this station, so you don't need to bother checking the schedule—you can just show up."

"The residential streets have a mix of single-family homes and apartment buildings, including a lot of really grand apartment buildings from the early 20th century. From here, it's a quick walk down to Lake Merritt for a run, and to the shops and restaurants on Grand and Lakeshore. This area has come up a lot in the last few years, and from here it's also an easy walk to Uptown, downtown, and Piedmont Ave. So there's plenty to do. "

"It's a lovely residential neighborhood near the lake. It's also near Grand Ave and Lakeshore Ave, which have great restaurants."

  • Mo H.
"It's mostly houses and apartments and is undergoing a slow gentrification process. It's perched on a hill, so there are some lake views. There are no shops in Adams Point itself—you need to go down to the lake."

"The sense of community is terrific. Lake Merritt is nearby, plus lots of great food. It's a great location. The dragon boat races on Lake Merritt are not to be missed—lots of colorful handmade canoes compete against each other."

"The lake is safe to visit during the day, and Fairyland is a great kid-friendly place to visit. It's an amusement park for small children. Lots of puppet shows, interesting buildings to explore, and areas for kids to be kids."

"Oakland's public schools are spotty. Look into where your kid would be placed and find out how the school is. The park at Lake Merritt is lovely, but is also overrun with Canada geese, which poop prodigiously. I wouldn't let my toddler roam around here for that reason. But Children's Fairyland in the park is a real Bay Area treasure—it's a simple little amusement park for young kids, and they say that it inspired Walt Disney to create Disneyland!"
