What Locals Say about Bucktown

"Very neighborhoody & walkable but only 3 miles north of downtown, easy access to Lincoln Park, West Loop, & Bucktown offers great restaurants, shopping & parks. "

"Sketchy, always delayed, dirty and crowded.. I’ve seen things on the blue line no one should ever have to witness (especially before 8am). 0/10 would recommend but it’s the cheapest and quickest way to get to the loop. Lots of folks are always hanging around the stops, and I’ve stepped off the train a few times only to find myself in the middle of a crime scene. Literally.. a crime scene. "

"dog owners would really like the area because it is safe, friendly and clean. It seems like the majority of the people who live here are responsible and care about their neighborhood. It also has many places specific to people who like to run or walk and even bike. "

"606 is great for running and walking. The farmers market, movies in the park, and Wicker Park fest in the summer are all great!"
- Alicia F.

"Walkable neighborhood, beautiful homes, close to restaurants and other necessities. Easy access to expressway. "

"within walking distance of logan square and wicker park, tons of great stores and restaurants a 10 minute walk away"

"Bucktown is overall a great neighborhood, everyone is very friendly and you never see anything out of line! Very quiet and homie. "

"Puerto Rican parade, and a 606 bike trail. the neighborhood overall feel safe especially at night time you don't have to worry it's very quiet clean trash is picked up everyone's yards in lawns are kept very nice. You can feel safe if walking around at night time."

"I could walk my dog at any time of day and feel safe. Everyone is very good about picking up after themselves. "
- Dkensick

"My commute to downtown is on the blue line which is an 8 minute walk from my house. Very easy access to the interstate as well."
- Trulia User

"Was an interesting neighborhood that became over-gentrified and lost all that made it desirable. Chain businesses that you can find in any suburban mall have replaced local spots.. Has lost any sense of diversity or culture "
- Chris S.

"Walk 8-10 minutes to the Damen Blue Line to get into the Loop. Not too bad. Safe walk too, for the most part. So I can’t complain too much"
- Tulsachick
- Resident

"Plenty of dogs in the neighborhood to have play dates with and to always keep your dog entertained. 3 dog parks close by too. Easy way to make friends and get to know your neighbors is to simply take a walk around the block. "
- Coxxx488

"There are many families with children due to the plethora of single-family homes in the area. Remainder of neighborhood tends to be younger adults."

- Meredith A.

"It’s a very family and dog friendly neighborhood with nice outgoing people, and lots of places to play (Holstein park, Pulaski Elementary playground, etc) "
- Rosemary R.

"Lots of trees and green spaces for dogs to sniff, but there are a lot of rabbits and rats running around at night."
- Emilysilman

"Bucktown Garden Walk, Walsh Park dog park, intramural sports teams that play in the area, Queen of Hearts raffle, etc."
- Chrisstopka

"There are plenty of more spacious living options here for people with dogs. Also there are some great parks within walking distance."
- Zach A. G.

"Clean, safe parks. There are a few schools in the neighborhood that seem to drive a lot of traffic from outside the neighborhood which I assume indicates the schools are the best in the city/Chicagoland area."
- Dustfingerink
- Resident

"Lots of families in the neighborhood and good places near by for food and to relax. Child daycare centers up and down North Ave as well as pet hotels. Really close to a very safe blue line stop."
- Emilysilman

"I don’t have kids so I can’t weigh in on this. But I’d imagine that it’s a nice place to raise kids. "

"Overall nice area. Plenty of nice parks and great dining and shopping options. The neighborhood is welcoming and well-preserved. "
- Kim K.

"Crowded! The blue line is a disaster at Damen and Division stops from 6:30-9am. Be prepared to squish in after allowing 1-2 trains go back full with wall to wall. It’s extremely stressful and frustrating EVERY DAY!"
- Tom S.
- Resident
- 4y ago
"Art event. Plenty of small events constantly. Great place to be. Parks and small local restaurants that host. Moving here there was plenty to find right away that make you feel at home. The Facebook pages for the community events and groups are great and connected"
- Kirkcruz

"I have lived in Bucktown for the past 5 years and absolutely love it. I live on a quiet, tree-lined street. Everyone does their part to nicely maintain their properties and I live walking my dog around here because it’s beautiful and full of other dogs and dog lovers. "

"It’s not unique. People don’t know one another, ppl are not friendly people don’t clean after their dogs, people get assaulted at night. There are more taverns than convenient stores"
- Trulia User
- Resident

"I walk my dog all the time, and we constantly run into other dogs. There’s a dog park just down the street. It’s very dog friendly."
