What Locals Say about NoMa

"Many outsiders, meaning tourist, that makes this place less safe. Many hotels and place that people will use but not maintain because they are not from here."

"Easy and short with plenty of public transportation available. Getting around is not an issue in the area. "

"Live in NoMa. Very quiet neighborhood with all the apartment buildings. Not a lot of families but a good base"

"Very nice, large apartment buildings for a reasonable price. The area is slowly growing with more restaurants and entertainment options in addition to nearby Union Market. The main downside is a large homeless community encampment on sidewalks under multiple bridges in the neighborhood. "

"Usually there’s a farmers market every Sunday morning in the summer! Luckily it’s actually right outside my building "

"Every third person has a dog. Dog parks and amenities in all the buildings. There's even a dog salon in the works."

"I live in an apartment building that plans events. I can’t speak for the homes in the neighborhoods. But seems nice enough since there’s a big school. There’s also plenty of bug buildings being built around and Eckington Yards will have a grocery store and retail spaces. Not necessarily community events but builds a possibility, I imagine for late 2020/2021"

"Convenient location. The neighborhood is loud with sirens especially at night. If you rent from a big box apartment complex, the city of DC does not give you a parking permit for your car. You will be required to pay for parking at your apartment building ($180 a month). "

"Easy commute to the metro. It’s not always safe especially at night. Lots of sirens. NoMa area needs more police presence. The bike lanes aren’t safe either. I was struck by a car that fled the seen. The area businesses and apartments do not record with cameras. "

"Gaps in redevelopment contribute to pockets of high area vehicle crime and harassment by those seeking handouts, often when alone or very late. Ladies please walk together. Overall, the neighborhood is clean and inviting."

"Great neighborhood but it’s mostly all apartment buildings so if you’re looking for a family style home, this probably isn’t where I’d recommend settling in."
