"there are nice parks less than 1 mile away. people drive way too fast through the neighborhoods so we've always been worried about our kids playing out front our riding their bikes - especially without sidewalks in our neighborhood. transients and people being released from jail walk our street daily. we've had several items stolen from our vehicles. neighbors are friendly, mostly families. "Albany has a lot of parks, some great schools and a fantastic library. There are many things for families to do outdoors and plenty of kid friendly places to go within an hour of Albany. The beach is just over an hour West of us. As with most of the PNW homelessness is a problem and it's more noticeable because this is a small town. Violent crime is low, property crime is higher and that's directly correlated to the drug problems some Albany residents face. This is a great place for involved parents to raise their kids. Just like everywhere else, as long as you're aware of everything your kids are doing, and who their friends are, and there's open communication, this is a wonderful place to put down roots."
