Middletown, California is 90 miles west of Sacramento and 90 miles east of San Francisco, making it a prime place for people who crave the countryside lifestyle. While Middletown is considered a rural setting, the town is still within driving distance from two of California's major cities, making it a convenient option for periodic commuters. With just under 5,000 residents, Middletown is a small community in comparison to the close metropolises. Nonetheless, new residents flock to the area every year, often drawn to the Twin Pine Casino, Harbin Hot Springs and Langtry Estate and Vineyards. Most locals are older, with a median age of 46, while homeowners are a bit younger at a median age of 41 years old.
Although Middletown locals once flocked north to escape rising prices in the Bay Area, values in the small town are increasing heavily year-over-year. In 2015, the average list price rose 27.32 percent to reach $426,261. Meanwhile, listings tightened by 16.67 percent. The number of homes on the market dropped from 18 to 15 last year, harshly constricting an already small market for hopeful Middletown homebuyers.
